Description of 1965 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series SE |
Offering an elderly couple's AZ winter sedan as my wife is no longer allowed to drive. The overall condition objectively rates a 3. however. a ten-footer on close examination reveals plenty of cosmetic flaws. none of which impair the ride and handling. The car is driven every day. Note the following blemishes:one repaint in Db 50 white. over the original Db 181. beige grey. was done to. at best. a Maaco or Earl Scheib standard. but better than AutoZone rattle canthe interior wood. very solid and complete. had been stripped of the veneer. then stained a ghastly light maroon matte finish during prior ownershipthe windlace is cloth covered in burgundy which has faded to a cancer-cure pink from UV exposureivory 16" steering wheel. original. has requisite crazing and multiple cracks. scrimshaw appearanceoriginal German square weave carpet is excellent except for driver floor mat and some bleached spots on rear window deck (note on photo with sun reflection)aftermarket radio. instead of Becker. but it does work. mostly on Spanish language stationsvirtually no rust evidence anywhere (rockers. jack ports. floors. trunk. headlight perimeter) but some minor epoxy repair under the trailing fender lips of both rear quarters (about 2"-3" inches. too small to photograph)thinning of chrome on the rear license plate light housing (photo). light scratching on the top of the front grill shell. rubber extrusion around the doors and the trunk seal are dried and deteriorating. could stand replacementno tool kit. but the original Bilstein jack and tire iron remain in place. Complete service manuals. and mechanical records from 2003 >. Purchased from a successful artist/illustrator in Seattle several years ago. and then driven. without a hiccup. 1800 miles to our winter in southern AZ where it now resides. It is registered and licensed in Indiana (the car has never been there). as we've only driven in New Mexico. AZ. and CA. The ride is pure vintage. shifting through all four gears. smooth. yet feels the road. the whistle of the wind wings. not a Japanese mute. Aside from the steering. no power anything. i. e. . windows. seats. A/C. door locks. air bags. cruise. Navigation system is a 2011 Rand-McNally large-print road atlas (included). A few pluses:The sightlines are very straight with no evidence of rippling or prior accidents. Gaps are uniform and all four doors. trunk. and hood open and close with precisionnear perfect front and rear chrome bumper assembliescomfortable original MB-tex interior with no tears. rips. or loose piping6 cyl. fuel injection is quite peppy. even with modest horsepower. easily maintaining or exceeding interstate travel speedgauges work; trip odometer. mileage odometer. vertical speedometer. oil pressure. gas. temp. The clock does not. Turn signals. lights and wipers do. sekurit windows all around. except for front windshield. a German replacement; no chips. rainbows. or scratchesno dash cracksperfect original headlinerRecent expert service. However. all the Mexican landscape guys here love it. One landscaper. a Cuban. gets homesick for Havana.
