Description of 1978 Mercedes-Benz 600-Series |
Selling my 6.9 which has been sitting for years in the garage after I had the hydropneumatic suspension fail. Resurrected the suspension this past year with all new lines and replaced the accumulators and level control valve in the back. Car stays up on its own now. Just installed a new water pump as well. It was my plan to get it mechanically set up and then tear out the interior and sent the car to the body shop this winter and have it restored. However I have lost interest and have many other projects on the front burner and this car is taking up space. The car was retrofitted by previous (original owner) with a 126 leather interior partly due to rear seat horsehair failure and also cracked and worn original front seats. The interior is in fair to good condition. Car sat out all winter at my mechanic's place as he worked on it for me over the winter so the car has suffered moisture damage in the inside and trunk area from the poor seals. I think at this point interior is salvageable with a good cleaning or the purist may wish to remove and search for a correct 116 interior.Motor is strong and trans shifts well. Tires have great tread but have been on the car for over 20 years. Front brake caliper intermittently freezes up. AC servo bad and will need replacement; 3 of the 4 window regulators I have also replaced. Car does not have the original Becker and antenna is out.Car suffers from the usual 116 rust...being an east coast car. Front lower fenders are shot rear quarter panels suffering as well. Front floor has rust under accelerator pedal. Car needs all systems gone through and I just don't have the time. I have a nice low mileage 450 SEL and use it regularly; bought it after I realized it was on springs and don't have to deal with the suspension issues the 6.9 has/had! If you are not familiar with these cars please exercise caution if you bid...these cars are not for the novice! For someone who has one and needs a good donor car or wants a good starting point for a full resto this may be the car for you.I am a true Mercedes enthusiast and can't see scrapping this car. Hopefully someone will have use for it. Please come and see or contact me through ebay for a true description. I'd be glad to answer any f your questions.Car is for sale locally as well and I reserve the right to end the auction. Thanks for viewing. |
