For Sale From a Private Collection 1940 Mercury Eight Coupe 46k Original Miles, araged Kept 95bhp, 39.4 cu. in. L-head V8 engine, hree-speed manual transmission, coil spring independent front suspension, emi-elliptic rear leaf springs with live axle, ydraulic four-wheel drum brakes. Wheelbase: 116" With a need to fill large pricing gaps between the Ford and Lincoln Zephyr, dsel Ford convinced his aging father that a new line of 'super Fords' was needed. In the fall of 1938, he new Mercury Eight for was born. While the styling of these new medium price entries was quite similar to the Fords, resemblance that chief designer E. T. 'Bob' Gregorie has planned on, irtually nothing between the two makes would interchange. When the 1940 models were released, ercury was an established success with a reputation for performance and quality that was a step above the lower priced models. Priced at $1,212, t was the most expensive model in the Mercury line-up. While the sedans and even the coupes were quite popular in their day, t is a very rare find to come across one of these Mercury's, nd finding one in a condition such as this example from the Art Astor Collection is quite remarkable. Treated to a full professional restoration, t is finished in its original hue of Gray as when it was new. Several accessories complete this package including a very rare original radio, eluxe heater and dash-mounted clock. This is a proud machine where authenticity is keynote in its presentation, own to the Ford script glass, s well as passenger compartment appointments replicated to factory standards.
