1971 Mercury Cougar 2 door FGA93H530071F Mercury Cougaris a nameplate that was applied to a diverse series of automobiles sold by theMercurydivision ofFord Motor Companyfrom 1967 to 2002. While most examples were produced as two-door coupes, t various times throughout its production life, he Cougar was also sold as a convertible, our-door sedan, tation wagon, nd hatchback. As was the common practice within the Mercury division, he Cougar shared its basic underpinnings with a Ford counterpart. At the time of its introduction, t was based upon theFord Mustang. While briefly based upon theFord Eliteduring the mid-1970s, he Cougar would subsequently become the Mercury counterpart of theFord Thunderbirdfor the rest of the 1970s into the late 1990s. After its initial discontinuation, he Cougar emerged as a sports coupe counterpart of theFord Contour"world car"; as such, t was sold outside of North America as theFord Cougar. For many years, he Cougar was important to the image of the Mercury division; advertising often identified its dealers as being "at the sign of the cat."[1]Femalemodelsholdingbig catson leashes were used as part of Cougar advertising in the early 1970s.[2]In production for 34 years, he Cougar is second only to theGrand Marquisin longevity. The car was assembled at the Dearborn Assembly Plant (DAP)—one of six plants within the Ford Rouge Center—in Dearborn, ichigan from 1967 to 1973, t the San Jose Assembly Plant in Milpitas, alifornia from 1968 into early 1969, t the Lorain Assembly Plant (LAP) in Lorain, hio from 1974 to 1997, nd at the Flat Rock, ichigan Assembly Plant from 1999 to 2002. The Mercury counter part of the Thunderbird. As such far more T-Birds were sold than Cougars so they are today much more the rave. This car is a long time one owner car and has been wonderfully maintained. It runs and drives beautifully. Total miles known. Please call with questions 206-467-6531 |
