THIS 1970 MERCURY COUGAR IS A SURVIVOR CAR WITH ORIGINAL PAINT, RIVE TRAIN AND INTERIOR!

This 1970 Mercury Cougar is a true Survivor with 97 percent All original paint and all body panels are original ( I have taken pictures of all body panel stampings including front fenders, ood, ear quarters at the door jams, ear trunk housing and trunk lid. The original driver door jam body code sticker is still there and so is the body tag on the passenger side cross member near the head lights.

(NOTE: the valance between the hood and the windshield looks repainted and so does one fender end extension (passenger side)

The frame is excellent except some rust thru on the passenger side torx box but most of it is solid. There is a hole in the outer floor tub on the driver's side and a smaller hole on the inner tub floor pan. I can see one driver side seat nut from under the car and it is not even rusted. The rest of the underside is in excellent condition. I could not find one hole in the trunk. All hardware under this car can be removed with out breaking your knuckles. Hardware all shows clean bolt threads besides minor surface rust.

The interior is also correct color Green on body build tag and is all original except the driver's side arm rest. All floor sound proofing from front to back is original! Even the insulation where the rear speakers go is factory original and in excellent condition. All trunk sound proofing is still there also. The interior and carpeting looks great except the driver seat will need recovering. The dash and instrumentation looks good still also. There are some dash cracks in the speaker area and some small cracks elsewhere but hard to see. The instrumentation will need electrical work. I did not check fuses, ulbs, ending units for temp or oil pressure. The dash lights work but sometimes while driving the head lights and dash lights go out. If you wiggle the headlight knob they come back on.

The entire body on this Cougar is in fantastic condition. I found one small hole the diameter of a pencil in the driver's side door. All the doors have minor surface rust on some corners but are 100 percent solid and so are the rear quarter panels and front fenders. There is no patch work or filler on this Car. It's incredible that the body is so clean and straight. Note all the lines on this care are excellent, he hood has a bent hinge so it sits ΒΌ inch high along the passenger fender but even hood lines are straight. (Note: I have not seen a cougar with perfect hood lines where it meets the front fender and grill and this one is no different.)

I wet sanded the entire body with 1500 grit sand paper to remove old oxidized paint and buffed with 3M rubbing compound to show just how nice the original paint is. (Note: The rubbing compound I used has no wax or other contaminants that would make paint prepping time consuming)

The Vinyl top is original and I did not alter it since I felt the car would be more desirable 100 percent non restored. The entire roof on this car is solid and rot free (see pictures of all mentioned here)

I have removed the starter from the engine to confirm correct 351 Windsor matching block, alve covers to confirm matching heads. The intake manifold, ear axel, ower steering box also match.

To confirm the transmission I would need to remove it which I did not, ut the C-6 is correct for this year and model.

Plus this 1970 Mercury Cougar still has very uncommon original components. The glass and steel rims are original with all date codes correct! The front and rear side window glass is in excellent condition. Rear window is excellent but the windshield is cracked.

I have taken pictures of all date codes and build codes. If I claim its matching I took a picture which that you can view at the end of this description.

When I brought the car it ran and drove but it did not run good. I had it flat bedded home and did some work on the car to make it more drivable. I replaced the power brake master cylinder and the brakes work great now. I replaced a power steering hose at the power steering valve and the power steering works great now. I removed the holly carburetor and rebuilt it including accelerator pump, nstalled new plugs, ires, otor and cap, ir cleaner, VC valve, hanged oil and oil filter and gas filter. The starter went out while I was working on the engine so I installed a brand new one.

The gasoline was orange even though the seller had drained and replaced it. I am not surprised it turned color again so I drained and replaced it again. I drove the car around town with no problems and after 10 or 20 miles it ran great no smoking or anything. But now it's running rough again and would die out on me when I went to take pictures. THIS CAR IS NOT A DAILY DRIVER UNTIL MORE REPAIR WORK IS PERFORMED. My suspicion is replace gasoline again and look at carburetor, he car runs good when warmed up but idle is rough. There is NO rod knock in this engine and it doe's not smoke so I would believe valve seals are in decent shape.

The transmission is 100 percent solid with no issues except a slow leak in the pan gasket.

NOTE: I have videos of this car running the day I took the pictures including the properly working hide away head lights and rear tail light sequentials (wig-wags) all the running lights hide away head lights and sequentials work excellent.

I have posted over 180 pictures below this description inside, utside and underside.

Bought in Florida when new the car ended up in South Carolina until 1983, t was then bought by a buyer who lived in Michigan and was stored 22 years before I purchased it this year.

I was going to make this Cougar a Clone Eliminator since it had the correct Year, liminators were only made in 1969 / 1970 and they were made only in Dearborn Michigan and were only made in the standard hard top model and had the 65 A body. Also the interior style is correct.

Survivor cars of any kind from this era are nearly impossible to find. If you're looking for a restoration which would have all original body panels with no rust issues and almost all original interior, nd you want matching numbers car, his will work for you. Any Cougar lover knows these cars are way undervalued in all selling markets online. I originally bought this car because I know this will not be the case for much longer.
