Description of 1953 Mercury Monterey

This '53 Mercury is a starting, topping, unning, riving car. The flathead runs very smoothly and the transmission shifts well. It's a driver, ot a show car, ut it's also not worn out or held together by Bondo. The Merc' has not been restored, odified, r customized.
I want the new owner to be completely satisfied so please ask all your questions before bidding. This is not one of those eBay cars that the seller has tried to make look better than it is. There are many more pictures that every bidder should take a look at. See them by clicking this link:1953 Mercury pictures There is also a short video of it driving.
-three speed manualwith working overdrive. Clutch is good, ot too heavy or light, nd the car shifts just fine.-cool "teapot" carb-original 6 volt system-new battery, lugs, ires, il & filter-starts easily-doesn't overheat-dual exhaust-great brakes
-some things that work: gauges!, ipers, eadlights, arking lights, ail lights including brakes, urn signals...most of the time, nterior lights, icense plate light, everse lights, orn, entilation system (fan, evers, tc). (I'm not sure of the accuracy of the gas sender in the tank) (The tail lights are dim, think, o maybe there isn't a great ground somewhere)
-the prior owner had the side stainless and the stainless on the door tops sent out for professional polishing.-the prior owner bought a new rubber seal set for the car but never installed it. At least $500 worth. I have it all in a box...I think it is complete but I don't know these cars well enough to be totally sure-there are new window felts installed all the way around (inner and outer)
-the chrome bumpers are quite nice except for two surface rust spots on the rear, n the bottom part, n each side. I believe the bumper parts were all rechromed.-the body is nice but I'm sure it's had some body work over the last 60 years. The paint isn't perfect (see the pictures!)-there are pictures showing chrome lugs on the motor. They are metal caps and there is a set that comes with the car.-the windows work, he doors and trunk latch and lock, he hood shuts and latches-telescoping antenna-a prior owner put in a new interior. It's pretty nice but not brand new perfect. All cloth...and no velour! The seats must have been redone as they are comfortable and not saggy.-electric adjustable front seat.-the front floors have been patched with sheet metal-when driving, t tracks well, oesn't pull, nd does not feel loose or vague-good tires and new MoonEyes hubcaps-there is a mini-spare tire
The fine print: The car is old and will not behave like a modern car. It is not restored and everything is not perfect. I am not an expert on this type of car. I'm sure the car has had several owners over the years and I cannot vouch for whatever work they may have done to the car. You should have it checked by your mechanic so you are confident that it is ready for the road. Please note: even if this was 1953 and the car was new, t wouldn't be like a new Honda Accord. The car is sold "as is" and the sale is final when the auction is over. Please only bid if you've got the money already sorted out. The car is for sale locally so it's possible that the auction could end early if I get a very good local offer. Thanks.
