Description of 1964 Mercury Other |
Up for sale is my 1964 Mercury Park Lane 2-door hardtop. This car was sold new in Dallas and stayed in Texas and Oklahoma all of its life. Park Lane was the TOP of the line Mercury back in the 60's. This car is LOADED with options: 2-door hardtop, breezeway window, factory AC, radio, clock, padded dash, power steering, full gauges, power seat, tinted glass, 25th anniversary package, Big Block 390 V8 motor and 4 barrel carburetor. With only 1,786 2 door hardtop breezeway coupes sold, this is a rare one for sure. I have divided up the car into sections in order to describe this Merc the best I can. Exterior: The original color on this car is a deep maroon color, which when new, was probably a very nice and attractive color. One day between now and 1964, it was given a two-tone, white and flat black paint job. As you can see in the pics, the white is in decent shape and will shine up pretty well, but the TX and OK sun have gotten the better of the flat black. Luckily, you can see the factory maroon and primer right underneath the flat black, meaning it has only been painted once. The body on this car is amazing. The trunk, floors, inner and outer rockers, quarters and fenders have ZERO rust and I mean zero. All of the trim is there and accounted for in decent shape. I have the trim for the driver's side, just waiting on the clips to come in the mail to attach it again. All lights on the exterior of the car work like they are supposed to. There are also some bubbles on the passenger side behind the rear tire. Interior: Like most Southern cars, the interior on this Merc does need some love. The good thing is, it is all 100% factory original and has not been messed with since it was installed in 1964. The interior could use a new headliner, front seat cover, dash pad, and carpet. Luckily, all of those things together aren't that expensive money-wise; they just take some time to install. The door panels and rear trim panels are in great original condition considering their age. On the inside you have a full set of gauges; some work, some don't. The best part on the inside of this car is the AC vents that are hidden in the dash. Another added bonus is the radio works and works well. The back window is controlled by a switch in the dash to roll it up and down, which it does smoothly. Engine/Trans: This Mercury sports its original 390 V8 engine. This engine, coupled with the optional 4 barrel carburetor is rated at 300 HP--not bad for 1964. The carb has been rebuilt and is all original with its factory tags still on it. The fuel system has two filters installed in order to clean out the gas in the tank. The engine spins over and starts on the first crank. The oil and oil filter have been changed. The engine does need new exhaust manifold gaskets, which I have heard is a pretty common problem with this type Ford engine. I have a new set ready to. The ignition system has been restored, with new points, cap, rotor, plug wires and spark plugs. The cooling system has had a new radiator cap added, coolant flush, upper hose, and fan clutch. The transmission shifts like it is supposed to, but might need a pan gasket as it drips a little bit. The power steering ram has had a new seal installed in it and works like it should. You can turn the wheel from side to side with just one finger. Suspension/Brakes: The brakes on this car have been 100% re done. The front brakes have new drums, shoes, rebuilt wheel cylinders, and brake hoses. The rear brakes have new springs, rebuilt wheel cylinders, and a new brake hose. The master cylinder has also been replaced. The entire system has been bled and stops as well as you can expect for a non-power drum brake car. The tires are BRAND NEW Hankook white stripe tires from Discount Tire. To compliment the vintage look, the correct 14 inch wheels and hubcaps are on the car. While the wheels were off, the front wheel bearings were checked and re-packed with new high temp grease. I have MANY MANY more pictures that I can send to you. Need to see a specific part of the car? Just ask and I can take those pictures for you. Also please check out all the videos on YouTube that I have made of me fixing the car up and bringing it to the point that it is today. If you copy and paste "1964 Mercury Park Lane Breezeway Coupe Playlist" into the search bar on YouTube, then you can see all the videos. There are 8 of them. I have a clear title in hand and in my name ready to go. I would like a $500 deposit through paypal once the auction ends so that I know you are serious. The remaining balance can be paid in cash or through a wire transfer. The car and title will not be released until the funds have cleared. I can also deliver for a fee, but you have to be within 300 miles or so of Dallas Texas. |
