Description of 1951 Mercury 4DR SEDAN |
I have my 1951 Mercury for sale. This car has 50,000 original miles on it. I am the third owner and have owned it for 2 years. This is a running driving stopping car. The body:Has a few rough spots like the rockers. some rust holes in the fenders and a few in the grill surround. I am a welder/fabricator so to me it isn't that bad. I already replaced the front floor boards. I have 1 new rocker replacement that goes with the car. The trunk is rust hole free. It has plenty surface rust but not holey. It has a broken driver window and track, but I have a new window to go with the car. The rubber is all original so it will need replacing throughout the entire car. I have the original grill and hood trim and hubcaps/ original rims also. I bought a new used set of exterior door handles for the car and new peep mirrors. I also have a grill from a 55 Pontiac to go with the car. The paint was originally green someone painted black. Now it has a really cool patina people pay big money for. Back wrap around glass is perfect. All Stainless trim is intact and in great shape all over the car. The interior:The interior is complete minus the headliner and carpet which I threw away. The front seat looks great with no tears, the back seat looks good except for the top edge where the sun beat down on it. It split all the way across. Easily remedied by a good set of mexican blankets. The door panels need to be redone only because they look dingy, The could be reused if you wanted. All the dash parts work to my knowledge except the original radio. I did completely rewire the car back to 6volt since everything worked. I used a kit from Ron Francis. This updated to a fuse block and nice modern wires. It hasn't been wrapped yet until I had everything double checked. The drivetrain:Engine is a 255 Mercury Flathead that is all original. Fresh oil and filter, new plugs and wires. New cap and rotor, points condensor new vac advance. Rebuilt original tea pot sidedraft carb. The exhaust is old and original and actually is broken right under the floor board. I have 2 glass packs to go with the car. Has a new fuel pump, new fuel lines all the way back to the tank. Cleaned out/painted tank. new filler hose in trunk area. Trans is a 3 spd on the column with overdrive. I put new shift bushings on it. The overdrive needs a switch mounted in the floor and the wire harness to be redone to match the other new wiring, so currenty its a 3 spd without overdrive. Has a new radiator, 2 new water pumps, 2 new thermostats. It has a new battery The car has new brake lines from the master cylinder to each wheel. New wheel cylinders in the front, new brake shoes in the front. The rear has 2 wheel cylinders to be installed but no shoes yet. The master cylinder was rebuilt. The car was lowered in the rear with 2" lowering blocks The car comes with 2 new uninstalled lowering coil springs, new shocks and new bump stops. Not sure if I missed anything but feel free to email with any questions Good clean title. Tags just expired so it is still driven around |
