Description of 1956 Mercury Montclair $1.00 No Reserve |
This is a 1956 Mercury. It was purchased new by my 91 year old uncle. Question? Is it still possible to buy a one owner car from the 1950's? Here you can. Many will say that they are selling you a car and NOT the story. Many cars have had multiple restorations and countless owners through the years but all have a story. You can decide if it is important to you. My uncle saw a preview for the new 1956 Mercury. He ordered this car before you and received it November of 1955. Some unique features are the 312 4V engine with Manual Shift and Overdrive. Rare spotlights, twin rear antennas, skirts spinner hubcaps etc. The color is a Lime Green (looks yellow in some pics) and looks backward. He specified body color on the roof and lower body instead of the typical White roof and lower body. When the car was scheduled to arrive at the dealer my uncle was waiting. When the driver started unloading the cars he came to this Merc my uncle stepped up and told him he would handle it from there. He maintains he has been the only driver. My aunt didn't drive until sometime in the late 1990's. They had no children. Several interesting things. He stated he only used Standard Oil products when serviced. In the trunk is an old can of Amoco The tires are Atlas and he claims there has been only one wheel weight ever put on it. Several weeks ago I went and loaded the car. The pics show it in the garage and is the very same place where it was brought home and has resided since new. My uncle grew up in that house and is now in the process of going to a rest home. He said he kept it as nice as he could. The chrome is very nice. It has had some touch up work to the paint but not all over and if I were to guess had to be done in the late 1960's. I remember him having it at my grand parents house in 1971 as I was a little kid and have pics of that event (have black and white pics when it was new as well) The only and last time I saw it out. I lived about 4 hours away in a different state. The rest of the time I have known and seen it was parked in his garage with a blanket on it. The garage as you can see was off of the house separating it was a breezeway and too was heated. The car was started and ran regularly through the years. It has recently had the fuel tank removed and cleaned. The oil looks new and is very clean. The current condition reflects it is a very original Mercury. The miles are original and are pictured above. It can be enjoyed as is after you go over it or take it to the next level. There is rust bubbles showing on the quarters and the paint on the hood is chipping. Those huge white mudflaps have always been on the car (you can see them in the pics of when it was new) The only other non original item is the golden goose hood ornament. The car to be mint will need a cosmetic restoration or leave as is as a survivor. The brakes and carb will need attention but car runs and stops on it's own. I would use common sense and not try and drive it home. There is a new carb kit and misc parts in the trunk with the original wheel and jack. Selling terms. To be honest I have no idea on what the car is worth so I am starting the auction at $1.00 and NO reserve. If you cannot wait until the sale ends make an offer. I will reserve the right to end the listing early. I do not have any price in mind so please do not send questions on what it would take to buy. I will be happy to answer anything else and would like to keep the sale as easy as possible. I do have the original title. Inspections can be done prior to auction ending. I would like the car picked up at a reasonable time. I would also like a $500. non refundable deposit sent directly after the sale. If you want to pay when you pick it up no problem. The deposit must be received before you get into your truck. I do not accept paypal on vehicles sorry. Payment in full within 7 days. If you can't pick it up for a few weeks that is fine payment in full within 7 days. I cannot and will not deviate on these requirements. Questions? Please use the Ask the seller a question tab first. If I am unable to answer your concern I will provide my phone number. I don't like typing either but is easier for me with my busy work schedule this time a year. I do not use my phone to get instant email updates and only answer questions the old fashion way at the end of the day when I get home. Thanks for looking. |
