Description of 1949 Mercury Other |
Hello, I have a very original 49 Merc,4 door rear suicide doors, decent sedan for sale. This car runs drives and stops, but not a driver. It has not been driven on the road for a few decades. Started to get her ready for driving. Here what has been done in the last year or so;New cap, rotor, spark plugs and wires,.Rebuilt carb, both water pumps are new too,new 6 volt battery.New clutch and reconditioned pressure plate too.On the brakes I did a new master cylinder and all three rubber brake lines. So it starts up and is willing to run, idles nice and low, sounds pretty healthy. Brake pedal is nice and firm and seems to stop ok, but I have not inspected any of the shoes or wheel cylinders. Gas tank is dirt, so I am running it off of a plastic portable gas tank locatied in the trunk. Exhaust has a bad muffler and tail pipe, exhaust manifolds seem good. Shifts into gears ok. Rust; solid car, does have a few very small holes on the rocker panels here and there. I had the seats out when I installed the new carpet kit. Only two small holes on the entire floor boards on driver side by accelerator pedal. I used heavy duty foil tape for heating and air duct to cover the two small holes. I also used por 15 rust prevention paint on all the floors before installing the carpet kit. I did take pics the floors before I put the carpet kit in. So I do have pics if you wanna see, but the two rust holes were so small they did not show up in the pics. So to be clea, solid car with very minor and very few rust spots. In my opinion not worth fixing at this time. Car has rust on the bumpers and some of the other chrome too. Lots of the chrome is in good condition, some of it has pits here and there, see pics. Has original Futon exterior sun viso, and factory metal fender skirts. This is kinda a big deal. This is a rare and expensive options. Body; paint appears to be the original paint, with nice patina . It has a few dings, but no major dents, does not have any signs of body work ever done. So no known Bondo, almost rust free body. Does it get any better than that? Interior;. It appears that all of the interior is original except the new carpet kit. The seats look amazing, no rips or tears in the seats. It's hard to believe that these seats have made it this long with no wear. Headliner is in intact with out rips but is showing it's age and is fragile now. Door panels are worn and show wear and tear. See pics. Complete dash with all gauges and am radio(pretty rare to have original radio). Chrome on the gauges look good, steering wheel has been restored. So this car was stored in a barn for many years, it was also stored outside for some time too. That's probably why some things are in good condition for its age and other things show wear. But just got running in the last year. shows 60100 miles on speedometer, but I have no way of knowing if this is actual miles or not. Clean out of state title I never put in my name, comes with Bill of sale from me too. All questions are welcome. Serious people are welcome to call text me.
