Description of 1949 Mercury Coupe

Beautiful 1949 Mercury mild kustom hot rod.
Everything, except the motor, on this car is beautiful working condition. The transmission is a 3 speed manual, with electric Borg Warner Overdrive.
The motor has a burned valve and was taken out of the car with plans to rebuild the motor entirely. Life has caused plans to change and the car as a whole is now up for sale. All parts removed are bagged and labeled for re-assembly.
Some may remember this Merc. Jim Leis built this car and the vehicle was known as "blown49".

The engine includes the 4" Merc crank and is overbored 0.080". The carb is a 600 cfm Holley. Note polished stainless heater lines with formed rubber connections. Old Mallory 2-piece cap with centrifucal advance only. Cam is an Isky 400 Jr. Heads are polished Offenhauser 425's. A puller electric fan was added due to pulleys to radiator clearance.Yellow coiled wires in bottom picture are for the radiator insertion probe switch to activate the fan. A Lokar cable accelerater pedal was installed. The alternator is from a '92 Sunbird and chromed. Horsepower is rated at 250HP, considerdbly more than the original 110 HP after the Roadrunner Weiand 142 supercharger was installed. Serpentine 6-ribbed belt drives from crank pulley and drives both water umps, blower and alternator. Engine block painted to match car color. Moon fuel pressure gauge verifies electric fuel pump pressure. Fenton headers were installed with 2" stainless exhaust system & Brockman steel pack mufflers. Side pipes are functional.
Interior is done in rolled and padded marine Naugauhyde. Original 3-speed colulmn shifter with OD transmission. Only year this dash was used. 1950 & 1951 were different.Trunk is done in white padded naugauhyde with dark blue flames stitched on the side panels and Mr. Mercury head and hat on back panel. Gas filler door is on rear left and has a hidden cable operated lid. Door compartments on each side panel open for hidden storage. Note the toolbox for the flatmotor-"Don't leave home without it!" Frenched tailights are made by Gene Winfield for 42-48 Ford with fiberglass housings.
