Description of 1969 Mercury Cougar XR7 |
1969 Cougar XR7 Convertible – Big Block Limited production example of factory muscle. S-code 390 with mild cam, 4-bbl, Top Loader close ratio 4-speed with Hurst shifter, 3.25:1 Trac-loc 9-inch rear, dual exhaust, power steering, power disc brakes. Maroon with a black power top and a new black leather interior. Has date code correct 1968 428CJ heads and CJ exhaust manifolds. This car does not have the original numbers matching block.
Most of you have never heard of a car like this. There are more 1969 convertible 428 Cobra Jet Cougars out there (209) than this rare beast.
Out of 100,085 1969 cougars produced, only 42 were made with this body style, trim level, and drive train. Out of those, how many are actually left 50 years later? Not many. For you non-Ford people out there, S-code refers to the fifth digit in the VIN. An “S” in the fifth place indicates that it was a factory 390 with a four barrel. Most 390 Cougars are two barrel. Dyno tuned at Marysville Speed in Washington State. Comes with original S-code 10.5:1 heads and exhaust manifolds plus other misc. parts. Included with the sale is a Deluxe Marti report, historical documentation, and shop manuals. This is a Sunday driver, not a resto-mod or trailer queen. Obviously, you can make it Concours if you wish.
Less than 2,500 miles on all new/refurbished parts.
