Description of 1973 Mercury Cougar XR-7

We just bought this car back from the man we sold it to 7 years ago. He enjoyed the car and took great care of it.
EXTERIOR: I will say the body, paint and chrome is exceptional. Really straight, all the panels fit like a new Lexus. Doors shut beautifully, trunk clicks shut. All along the bottoms of the car is smooth, no rust. The paint is very glossy with no significant issues anywhere. Upfront the grill, headlight bezels, bumper guards are all in excellent shape. Bumper has show quality chrome. The trim around the windshield and the top of the door, the door handles and emblems are all excellent. In back it has show quality chrome bumper and all the trim is bright. Door jambs are painted neatly, the weather strips are soft. Has a new tan convertible top that matches the interior with new weatherstrips. The triple white pinstripe, sport mirrors and wire hubcaps dress it up too.
INTERIOR: Also very nice inside. The two front seats have just been reupholstered and they retained the embossed logo. The rear seat is excellent original. Dash area is unabused, it even has the original Am-Fm stereo. Being an X-R7 it has the full set of instrumentation including the tachometer. Door panels are original, they've been redyed.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Has a 351 Cleveland big block motor with a four barrel. The entire engine compartment looks very orderly and stock. The factory air conditioning has been updated with R134a freon at some point. It also features power steering and power brakes. Has stock valve covers, air cleaner, washer bottle, fan shroud etc. The metal engine bay is clean, no signs of rust or damage.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Very clean metal and painted spatter finish. Bottom of the trunk lid and the jamb are painted red, weatherstrip looks new. Has a new plaid trunk mat. Has a spare.
UNDERSIDE: Really solid underneath. I happened to walk through the shop while it was on the lift and there's no signs of rotten metal or patches. All solid clean metal we cleaned and sprayed it back. Bottom of the motor is clean, starter is new. The C-6 automatic trans looks fresh. Has dual exhaust with Ford mufflers. New rear shocks.
Luxurious and sporty. Good looking car with a big block under the hood and a cockpit full of accessories. Your turn to enjoy!
I, Jay Grams, take pride in personally writing the descriptions for virtually every car for about the last 30 years now. A significant amount of effort goes into fact checking. What I am offering is my professional impression of the vehicle.
Our salesmen are happy to assist with descriptions and making sure your questions are answered. One great suggestion is letting us do a walk around video that explains the car's condition in detail.
