1950 Mercury 2-door Deluxe 6-Passenger Coupe Gorgeous. fully restored original Mercury Deluxe Coupe! With only period performance modifications under the hood and a common 2″ drop to the ride height. this uncut example is a rare find today! Outstanding nut-and-bolt restoration that is certainly as show-worthy as it is driver worthy! The factory code correct black finish is truly stunning with finished results meant to replicate the vehicle driven by James Dean in “Rebel Without a Cause. ” Mercury was founded in 1937 by Edsel Ford as a bridge between the top-end Fords and the base Lincolns of the time. It was a brand that arguably struggled with an identity during its primitive years but ultimately hit full stride after the war. Introduced in 1939. the Mercury 8 started life with a flathead and really came into its own with the release of the third generation in 1949. As the first post-war Mercury. it came out swinging with a larger 255ci Flathead V8 and unique styling that better differentiated it from its Ford roots. This new integrated fender “ponton” design helped Mercury break sales records in 1949. With many finding their way into the hands of customizers immediately from dealer showrooms. finding an uncut. un-chopped. or unmodified example today is very difficult! We are excited to represent this stunning nut-and-bolt restored 1950 Mercury 6-passenger Deluxe Coupe! Professionally restored very recently in its original color of Black (01) with stellar results! The cloth interior has been perfectly executed in a sharp two-tone gray which carries from the floor to ceiling. and a matching carpeted trunk. Options include strong running 255ci Flathead V8. 3-speed manual transmission with overdrive. factory 4. 27:1 rear axle ratio. working AM radio with tone control (Hi-Fidelity. Bass. Normal. & Lo Noise). front & rear bumper guards. BF Goodrich Silvertown 3” wide whitewall tires measuring 7. 10×15 in period 4-ply polyester design. chrome gas tank door paint protector. rear assist handles. all new tinted window glass with exception to the rear windshield. blue dot rear tail lights. and more! This finish work to make the shine on all metal body work far just exceeds just the exterior. and carries into the inner fender wells. radiator surround. firewall. inner jams of the hood. trunk. & doors. and more! A true testament to the character of the rust-free 66. 00 mile vehicle selected. the expertise of the restorer during this frame off restoration. and the level of quality they set out from the beginning to achieve with a car that was fully disassembled properly! The gaps and body fitment are second to none. The entire frame was media-blasting to bare metal before being fully painted with all new body mounts. fully rebuilt suspension system that was lowered 2” front and rear. all new braking system with stainless steel lines. fresh hoses. etc. . and all new fuel system starting with new gas tank. stainless steel lines. new fuel pump. filters. and more! Under the hood rests a fully overhauled and correct 255ci L-head V8 with some 1950’s period performance enhancements. These include Offenhauser aluminum heads and dual carb intake fitted with dual downdraft carburetors. A manual 3-speed column shift transmission shifts with ease and engages smoothly through all gears. The exhaust now breaths through Fenton cadmium-plated headers and new aluminized dual exhaust pipes. Keeping everything cool is a new brass top oversized radiator and fresh water pumps. All of the wire harnesses throughout the car are new. and period correct 6-volt positive ground. utilizing cloth-covered wiring and a generator charging system. All chrome was refinished with a triple plating process and all stainless steel polished to a high shine! The end result was meant to symbolize the look of the iconic Mercury Coupe driven by James Dean in “Rebel Without a Cause”.
