Description of 1954 MG T-Series TF |
Following World War II, he first British sports car to capture American hearts was the MG TC. Its success inspired the MG TD, hich appeared in 1949 and was built specifically for the U.S. market, ith improved handling characteristics and left-hand-drive. The TF, nveiled in late 1953, as criticized by MG purists for its repositioned headlamps, ew bonnet design, loping hood line and raked radiator. However, any more welcomed the new TF, hich sold nearly 10,000 units during its two-year production run. When introduced, he MG TF was powered by the same XPAG 1,250 cc engine that had driven the TD. While the engine's output increased by a mere three horsepower, he new TF was nearly five seconds quicker in the zero to 60 mile per hour dash than the previous model. Despite its slightly dated design, he American press welcomed the MG TF. In its December 1954 edition, oad & Track stated, After last year's test we asked if the TF was really that good. It is, nd more. Even though the MG is the lowest priced sports car on the market, t is the accepted standard of comparison."Today, he MG TF has proven to be the most desirable of the T-Series cars on the market, nd it is considered by many enthusiasts to be one of the most attractive MGs ever made. The 1954 MG TF Roadster presented here is a beautifully fully restored example, hich displays a smooth and glossy yellow finish. Tuneau cover, eather covered steering wheel, eally complement the flowing lines of this handsome automobile. As well, he TF rides on a set of chromed wire wheels with chrome hubcaps, nd new tires. The inviting cockpit is trimmed in black leather upholstery with black carpeting, nd features a beautifully refinished dash and steering wheel. Under the bonnet, he four-cylinder XPAG engine is well-detailed and period-correct in presentation, ith the exception of a modern maintenance-free battery. This handsome 1954 MG TF Roadster truly embodies the essence of MG. It will certainly provide its next enthusiastic owner with an enjoyable break from the mundane with a solid dose of pure, lemental motoring enjoyment. |
