Description of 1978 MG Midget |
A. Info I provided to another person's questions. Following are your questions and my answers and comments in red. 1) How is the paint and body. Is the paint original? Are there any scratches or blemishes worth noting? The paint is in very good condition and I believe it is the original paint. There are two or three very minor spots (1/4 inch or less in diameter) where someone must have opened a car door and just nicked the paint. There are no dents, cratches or other blemishes. 2) Is there rust anywhere? I know the ad says no rust, ut curious if there are any paint bubbles or places of concern? While I haven't put the midget up n a lift to look, here are no bubbles or rust anywhere on the exterior. 3) Has the car been in an accident? Any signs of a frame repair? No accidents since I owned it and it doesn't appear to ever been in an accident and the frame is solid. 4) Are the mechanics original, eaning are there any modifications or components in need of service or repair. The information I received prior to purchasing the midget says"Very original and truly rust free. Always garaged and never driven in inclement weather. The car cosmetically is completely original. Interior is also original and considering the age in remarkable shape. Soft top still looks new as does the padded boot cover. Mecchanically the car is wonderful having had a complete engine rebuild, ew clutch, rakes, tc. Tires are also nearly new. Text in blue is from Hemmings Motor News. The mileage at that time was 62106. I use the midget around town (not in foulweatheror in the winter) and have put on veryfew miles as you can see. And it has been garaged since I bought it. 5) Brakes and clutch operate fine?Yes 6) Interior is obviously used condition, ut any tears, oles, r issues worth noting? There was one small tear on the upper interior of the passenger side door which I glued and it is hardly noticeable. I replaced the carpet on the drivers side floor as well as added a carpet in the trunk/boot. 7) I know you mention it's a good top in the ad, ut to confirm, verything is good and in working order with the top? Yes the top is fine and I only put it up when I garage the car for the winter. It thus is a tight fit which can be a little difficult latching as it hasn't stretched much if at all. Is there anything else I should know? The hood/bonnet release knob broke and rather than replacing it I attached a u bolt and duct taped it and it opens the hood fine. It is not even visible if you weren't looking for it. The midget came with no radio and I didn't care so I fashioned apieceof linoleum, lued it on and painted it flat black. As you plan to drive the car to Ohio Ibelieveit will make the trip quite fine. The longest trip I have taken is about 150 miles. For your information I bought the car from a dealer in Washington DC, ad a friend check it out and had it transported to my house in Massachusetts, nbsp;I don't recall what I paid but it was a lot less than taking time off from work and flying to DC and driving home. Upon consideration of the answers, nd if you have not sold the car in the meantime, would like to hire a mechanic to visit and examine on my behalf. If you have not sold the car before that time, ould this be something you'd be willing to do? Most certainly. You are also welcome to call my mechanic who has his own service and restoration business ... British Motorworks. His name is Michael Crawford and his number is 617-320-2647. Any morequestionslet me know. Looking forward to hearing from you !! Jack Kelly B. The Midget is correct all systems are operational. The asking price is appropriate due to how sound the car is. The rockers and floors in the car are perfect no surface rust or rot. The doors have no sag. The top is in good condition but will need to sit in the sun to stretch out. The engine and clutch are in great condition. The list below will state all conditions of the vehicle. I would have no reservations taking this car on a long trip. I cleaned the carburetor last season and place a fresh 45D distributor in the car, t quite frankly has been flawless since. If you have any other questions please advise.
