Description of 1950 MG T-Series TD |
Key Update 9/7: After reviewing serial numbers, his car is a mid-production 1950's model, ot 1952. I had always thought it was. The title for the car lists it as a 1952 model, ut clearly that was a clerical error when or before I purchased it. The discovery of matching serial numbers and all original mechanical equipment and fact that this is a lower production quantity vehicle has convinced me to increase the starting price. Restored 1950 MGTDs are selling for $20K with no mention of all original equipment. Key Update 9/6: Several good questions and suggestions were raised some regarding the serial numbers on this car and the title. I have posted two new pix, ne of the main serial plate which shows the Car No. as TD2971 as shown on the title, nd the Engine No. as 3115. The second pix is the plate on the engine block with the matching number 3115 meaning this is the original engine for the car. Also examining the title, find that the mileage at the time I purchased was 47,100 vs. the current odometer of 47,696 which means I put much less mileage on than I thought.Hope this helps you happy bidders out there. For sale is this original 1952 MG TD, erial #TD 2971, n very good condition with the odometer under 50K miles. I have been the owner of this car for the last 44 years and have used it sparingly and stored it in garage conditions when not used. It could be rehabilitated quickly and inexpensively for fun, r would make a great base for a full restoration. It has not been started for years, o care would be required in bringing it back to life. If time allows, will attempt to start it and will post any updates. Several features are key to the value of this car. First, here is NO RUST! There is no body damage or dings. I'm assuming the paint job is the original and other than some minor chips, t is in great condition. The engine was overhauled (see below) and is pristine as can be seen in the photos. The tires are still fully inflated. The top and side curtains are in good shape. Issues that will require some attention are the seating which is not original, owever I had purchased the seats and seat back but never installed (a $1000 value at Moss Motors - pictured). Upholstery kits are available to finish to original seating. The dashboard is original? but will require some attention to restore. There are normal dry rot issues on rubber and foam parts. The steering wheel should be replaced which I purchased but never installed (a $400 value - pictured). The right front wheel is currently seized. I will update if I can fix that before the sale closes. The key has been misplaced and a locksmith may be required if I can't find it. History - I purchased this car in 1971 in good running condition. It was used for some short commuting for about 1 year. After a move, t was largely garaged with some short junkets for fun. In 1975, arranged a trade out with a MG mechanic to overhaul the engine. After that, t was used only for only one trip of about 400 miles and more fun junkets up until 1980 when it was permanently garaged onto jack stands. There were probably no more than 2000 miles driven on the car after the engine was overhauled. Buyer will be responsible for shipping costs and arrangements. Pick up time must be scheduled with seller. |
