Description of 1979 MG MGB |
SEE MY OTHER AUCTIONS FOR MORE VINTAGE CAR PARTS AND ACCESSORIES Further cleanout of surplus vintage cars and parts: ANOTHER BARN FIND. This is a no reserve auction and the MGB will be sold regardless of price, on or off auction. GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This particular auction is for an original authentic, good running, matching numbers, low mileage, original paint 1979 MGB roadster with factory overdrive transmission as shown. Includes a British Motors Heritage Certificate authenticating it's matching numbers. It was sold new in Georgia and has remained here all it's life. It was a perfect driving car when stored in a climate controlled garage in 1994 and has not been on the road since then. Original factory colors are as shown in Russet Brown exterior with an Orange/Brown interior and black convertible top. Original factory equipment was Overdrive transmission, 60 spoke wire wheels, heater, black tonneau cover. Mileage shows 40265 and is probably correct as the mileage on the title shows 39978 in April of 1994, shortly before it was put up in storage, but of course cannot be guaranteed. Obviously has had good care over the past 36 years. It will need minor work as noted and shown. Manufactured on May 21, 1979. Serial number G-HN5-UL/498172-G. Engine number 18V-884-AE-L/6683. I do not detail my cars for sale but I DO wash and clean them so that you and I can clearly see the good and bad points. Nothing is hidden from view under years of filth. I will answer all email questions and take additional photos of any specific area on request. ENGINE: Runs extremely well, smooth and quiet with excellent oil pressure and compression - no smoke, no noises and no overheating. Starts and runs as normal with the ignition key. Carburetor was disassembled, cleaned and adjusted. Fuel lines and fuel tank were cleaned. TRANSMISSION: Standard original MGB 4 speed with the optional overdrive activated with the gearshift lever switch. Clutch hydraulics were replaced due to long term storage. With the rear wheels off the ground and the engine running the transmission goes through all of the gears easily and the overdrive works well. ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Original paint. Very original and looks complete. Includes new battery. TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Original paint. Nice and solid. EXTERIOR SHEET METAL, BODY PANELS: All panels are nice and straight with no bondo or prior accident damage noted. Doors open and close very well - no sag or other problems. Underside of doors are very solid. The outer rockers and fender bottoms look solid except for a couple of very minor rust spots on both dog legs as shown. Hood has a few dents. CHROME: The chrome/stainless steel is in good original condition. The luggage rack is a very good stainless steel model. PAINT: Has not been repainted. The original factory paint is still fairly shiny and decent looking - it's is about a 10 footer - any closer and you will see some scratches/imperfections/blemishes here and there. GLASS: Glass is all good - nothing broken. Door windows are good and wind up and down easily. CHASSIS: The unibody subframe is straight and solid with no apparent accident damage as shown. INTERIOR: Due to early years wet carpeting the front floors do have some holes as shown in the photos - easily patched. The original carpeting was removed and tossed out so that clear photos of the bare floors could be shown. The battery box is intact and solid. DASH AREA: Typical cracked dash top. All gauges work. Radio, Horns, turn signals, lights, heater motor - all work. , UPHOLSTERY: Will need a carpet set. The original carpeting had water and critter damage and was removed and tossed out. Both seats still have the original upholstery which is in good useable driver condition. Original upholstery is still in petty decent condition. The top frame/bows is complete and very good but the vinly top is quite old and will need replacing. AIR CONDITIONING: None. TIRES & WHEELS: All tires are very old and need replacing. 60 spoke original wire wheels are in fair condition and should be serviced/repaired/replaced and painted. EXHAUST: Looks like it might still be the original exhaust and it is still in useable condition but getting pretty old for an exhaust system. SUSPENSION AND BRAKES: Complete - Nothing missing but the hydraulics have not been touched and so the brakes will need rebuilding or replacing due to long term storage. Brakes will work, but just barely. I don't have the time to go through the brakes to free them up properly. MISCELLANEOUS: This is a 36 year old used classic sports car - it is as described as shown and is not guaranteed. It can be used as it stands with a small amount of work. As of this writing Hagertys used car values lists the 1979 MGB (NOT including overdrive transmission) at $8100 average condition, $3800 fair condition and $16,400 excellent condition. PAPERWORK: Comes with the 1994 Georgia title and bill of sale. Also comes with the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate FACTORY ID PLATES: The Vehicle identification ID plate and engine number plates are intact and correct. These are the original "matching numbers" plates. INSPECTION OF CAR: Inspections are welcome and encouraged at any time before the auction ends. SHIPPING: The car will roll and steer but is not driveable due to the brakes. I can help with loading the car. Shipping or collecting the car is the buyers responsibility. If necessary I can arrange shipping or assist with arrangement. PAYMENT & BIDDING: Contact me if you have less than 5 feedbacks or your bid will be cancelled. A $500 non refundable deposit via Paypal is due immediately after the auction closes. The balance is due within 3 days via wire transfer, priority or overnight mail with a bank cashiers check. Full payment is to be made IN ADVANCE of collecting the car. IN ADVANCE, BEFORE YOU COLLECT THE CAR - This is an auction and you have plenty of time to inspect the car personally or have a 3rd party inspect the car - inspections are welcome and encouraged. Winning the auction does not mean that you now have the privilege of coming to inspect the car to see if you like it. When the auction is over, it is your car and payment is due at the close of the auction per these instructions. The car is at my home and can be left here for up to 30 days at no charge before collection. After that I have the option of charging a storage fee. I have sold approximately 25 cars and motorcycles on ebay and they were all a bargain.
