Description of 1963 MG MGB MGB |
This auction is geared to the experienced British sports car enthusiast with mechanical skills who may be interested in "awakening a sleeping MGB". You are purchasing my 1963 MGB Pull Handle Roadster, red exterior, black interior with red piping, the 14,901th MGB built during the first year of the new MGB marque. Originally purchased in 1991 with all original parts still installedand five-yearground uprestoration completed in 1996 just in time for the International MGB event at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Car has been driven periodically since the restoration except for the last five years when it has sat in the garage unused. I was in the process of freshening up all of the mechanical systems but recent health issues require me to sell it as is. My plan B if I am unable to sell the car with this auction at the stated price, I willoutsource theworkthat needs to be completedand repost the car on a future ebay auction at a much higher price. I am ready to move on. The stated purchase price is set for a quick sale to an MGB enthusiast who is not afraid to get his hands dirty. During restoration, all paint was removed, every nut and bolt renewed or replaced; new rocker panels, floors, fenders, door skins, rear fenders, wiring harness black interior with red piping, black carpet, front and rear suspension, 3-main engine, transmission, and differential rebuilt to original specs. All paint was professionally removed from the body after new panels installed and painted a variation of Tartan Red using DuPont base coat clear coat system and engine. All replacement parts purchased thru Moss Motors or Victoria British LTD. A second mechanical update was completed in 2003 with replacement of original 3-main bearing engine and non-synchro transmission with 5 main bearing 18V engine with .040 oversize pistons and 5-speed transmission. A new updated gauge clusters and a center console installed to accommodate the changes with the 5-speed transmission, however, all original parts are available to convert back to original look of MGB if desired. Wife says original 3-main engine, 4-speed transmission and and all-parts and manuals must go with the sale so bring a truck and a trailer. Car has been driven on day trips through out Indiana over the years but has not been actively used for about five years since the purchase of the evil BMW M-Roadster that sits in the next garage bay.MGB has been garaged the entire time that I have owned it. I was in process of going thru all of the mechanical systems to get it back on the road again after sitting in the garage for five years when I encountered major back problems that prohibit me from working on the car any further. A person with English car mechanical skills could get this back on the road in approx. two weekends work. For the eBay listed price, the new owner will get a vintage MGB with a solid body (no rust and all new body panels), excellent paint with a few minor defects, new interior, rebuilt 18V engine with minor performance modifications, new wire wheels and Michelin tires, and Moss 5-speed transmission (current pricing is $4,195 for transmission alone) and original drivetrain, gauges, and spare parts. List of all restoration work that was done and parts replaced is too numerous to list and a list of items to get the car back on the road will be provided to serious inquiries. Restoration Highlights o Body - All rotten sheet metal removed and replaced, all paint was removed down to metal and DuPont primers and clear coat paint applied to match tartan red. New rocker panels, front fenders, rear fenders, and door skins were replaced with aftermarket products. All new bumpers, lights, lenses, and chrome trim were installed during original restoration. Pictures of restoration and most receipts will be available to interested buyer. o Engine – original 18G engine reconditioned to like new condition, new .020 over pistons, camshaft, .20 over main and rod bearing, new dual HS4 carburetors fitted. This engine is in storage and will be sold with the car. Current engine is an 18V MGB engine with .040 over pistons, hotter camshaft, .020 over main and rod bearings. This engine runs hotter than older engine and a new aluminum racing radiator has been installed with an electric fan. o Transmission/Differential – original 4 speed non syncro transmission was reconditioned before placing back in original restoration. Transmission will slip out of third gear on downshift. Current transmission is Ford Sierra 5-speed transmission that is fitted to the 18V engine that is currently in the car. The original differential was reconditioned at time of original restoration. o Suspension – All suspension parts have been totally refinished and refitted with aftermarket neoprene bushings. All shocks were reconditioned before placing back in the car and stiffer shock vales were placed in the car. o Brakes – All components of the brakes were replaced with new equipment during original restoration. Brake pads are metallic. When 18V engine placed in the vehicle, a new dual cylinder master cylinder was placed in the vehicle for additional safety. Original master cylinder is available. o Wheels and Tires – New 15x6 chrome wire wheels were purchased in 2016 and fitted with Michelin 195/65x15 tires. o Interior – Interior was reconditioned with original seats and black leather with red piping. I have been told this was incorrect as US cars came with white piling but used “Original MGB” book as guide for original restoration. All original gauges are available with the car but most were not working reliably so when 18V engine installed, all new aftermarket gauges were placed in the vehicle in original locations. In addition, I fitted a 1980 MGB console to better accommodate the 5 speed transmission shifter location. All new carpet and door panels were installed. Other Restoration Considerations o New gas tank was installed in 2015; gas gauge does not work properly with the new sending unit. o New tinted windshield was installed o Exhaust system is a Peco header/exhaust systemand all parts have been ceramic coated back to the exhaust tip o Aftermarket stereo installed butspeakers were never installed. o New top and tonneau cover o Converted to single 12v battery - generator must be re-grounded every time you disconnect the batter or you will runs the risk of burning up the new wiring harness. o Original pull handles restored to original condition o Garaged since restoration, never driven in the winters and rarely in the rain. oConvertible top has only been on the car twice o California Car Cover “Nova” customer car cover comes with the car o Mota Lita wood steering wheel o Low torque starter o Extensive powdercoating in engine compartment o Mallory dual point distributor Remaining List of Items Required To Make It Drivable o Rebuild and install SU Carbs and air cleaners, drain old gas and flush fuel system o Bleed brakes and clutch hydraulics o Install radiator overflow, lube heater cables and reinstall defroster hoses o Start engine, adjust timing and carburation o Reinstall drivers seat after replacing adjustment mechanism o Install new weather stripping (parts provided) o Purchase spare tire for new wire wheel in trunk o Match paint and touch up handful of small paint chips o Replace tachometer (replacement part provided) |
