For Sale 1968 MGBGT Styling changes and exterior: Obviously this is not a stock MGBGT. As with my other creation (see photo of my 1964 MGB) I have done a restyling of the front end to better reflect the Italian styling origins of the MGB. Front turn signals and running lights have been trimmed and relocated in the front bumper. The nose has been reshaped to have an oval fish mouth appearance with a recessed front woven wire mesh front grill. The grill emblem is reflective of the small chrome emblem available for the blank radio plate. The lower valence has three woven wire vents with side woven wire vents behind the front and lower wheel arches. The badge bulge on the aluminum bonnet has been removed and a vented teardrop added to the top of the bonnet. Bonnet release opens from the front just above the grill. The trim lines that join the rear of the front fenders to the car have been removed to give a seamless appearance. The chrome air vent below the front windshield has been removed. Venting is done from a force fed hose inside the engine compartment similar the MGA set up. The rear of the car has had the back up lights removed and the rear hatch pull knob. Opening the hatch is accomplished through a cable pull located behind the drivers seat. The upper rear fender seam had been removed and smoothed out. The hatch is from a “74” with window heater glass. (glass heater is not hooked up). The notch for the exhaust tips has been enlarged to accommodate the dual setup. Rear license plate holder and lights are from a later “B”. nbsp; (I did not use the earlier stock over riders and license plate lights because I believe that the were originally designed for the wider European license plates an I feel that they look out of place). Side molding is new. Front and rear bumpers are painted to match the wire wheels. Wheel knock offs are new and come with a Moss Motors wooden protector for removal and installation. Tires new are 185-65 14 Toyo’s with about 100 miles on them. Spare tire is new too. The body had no rust when I got it as it spent most of its life in the central valley of California. It appears to never have been hit. All the door and window seals are new with the exception of the rear hatch window seal. Interior: The 68 “pillow” dash was replaced with a new Moss motors unit fitted to a 1974 GT frame with full console and glove box. Gages are from a “68”. Seat belts are retractable from a ”74”. Seats are low back with older reupholstered cloth covering. (no rips). Rear seat is older too. New threshold plates. The interior is all black including the ceiling. Carpet is new and cut and glued to fit. Steering wheel is from a “74”. Shifter is custom built. (see photo) and allows for smother overdrive engagement especially when shifting between third overdrive to forth standard. The only flaw in the interior is that the door panels need to be replaced. Gas. brake and clutch pedals are covered with the Moss Billet Pedal Cover Kit. Rear view mirror is not stock but a much-improved design of my own. Mechanicals: The car has 159. 00 miles on it but the speedometer does not reflect that as it has been replace with one that works. I was told by the last owner that the engine has a little under 100. 00 miles on it. It is the original. As I worked on this car I could tell it has been out of the car before. It runs very well with good compression. The carbs have been rebuilt and re-bushed by apple hydraulics in New York. The engine has a “74” twist off oil filter set up and a new electronic ignition distributor. The engine compartment as well of most of the car was torn down and reassembled with liberal bead blasting of components through out. The brakes have been gone through with new shoes and seals. New seals with the clutch master and slave too. The overdrive works great. was serviced with new fluid but otherwise has not been touched. The car has been lowered two inches and looks aggressive. Handles well but could use a front sway bar up grade. The rear end is tight as it was recently replaced with a low millage unit from another car. However it is starting to develop a slight pinion seal leak. The drive shaft has new U-joints installed. The speedometer transmission right-angled drive and cable with housing have been replaced. Cons: Although the paint job looks good in the pictures I am disappointed in the final results. I would call it a good five-foot paint job. Because the car sets so low the muffler drags on speed bumps. The side view bullet mirror looks cool but is hard to use. As mentioned the interior door panels need replacing and the pinion seal is starting to develop a slight leak. Windshield washer is not hooked up. In conclusion. as you can see this is a solid car that has been thoroughly be gone through. A nice ride. and if you are looking for something different this just might be the BGT for you. |
