Description of 1958 MG MGA |
Please read carefully. I have purchased several cars sight unseen through the years and have owned several MGAs. Sometimes I've gotten burned, so I make it a point to be completely honest about what I sell, and not forget any imperfections. I don't want any disappointments for you, or me. In terms of MGAs, this is the nicest and tightest I have ever owned. To resort to a cliche, you can "eat" off of virtually any part of it, including the engine compartment and undercarriage. There is no rust and the car has a history of long term ownership, proper care, and garage protection. I have not owned it long; I enjoyed driving it briefly and then wound up buying a Morgan that I had been searching for for years. I don't have the space for two cars, so reluctantly, the MG will go. I am neither a dealer nor a car "flipper." I only buy good solid drivers and you will be happy with the look and performance of this classic. The car benefitted from a complete restoration about 6 years ago. Documentation is provided. This included a rebuilt engine and drivetrain, and a bare metal repaint in the original red. Wire wheels were powder coated.Tires are like new. Everyinch of the car was gone through and replaced or repaired as needed. At some point the upholstery was redone in black, and the dash was covered in leatherette, which was used for later models. This '58 would have exhibited the painted dash that is under the vinyl. The side curtains are the originals, with the unique spring mechanism to open them part way. On one, the spring is missing. The storage bag that holds them behind the seats is fine. Interesting and rare original features include the side curtains, as mentioned, which feature a zipper and bracket for partial opening, original radio and speaker (must be checked to see if it works ok), and the optional ash tray. The Robbins top has a couple of holes that have been taped but remains fully functional. A new, full tonneau is included. Only a few thousand miles have accumulated since the major overhaul. Based on existing documentation and its oral history, there is every reason to believe that the current odometer reading may be correct. The car was used sparingly and properly cared for throughout its life. The paint job has held up extremely well. What wear exists is more in the realm of imperfection, rather than "flaws." There are a few very minor dings here and there—one on the passenger side, one near the hood on the drivers' side, and a little touch up paint was used in a spot on the engine compartment hood. Any of these are hardly noticeable except in direct light. Overall the car looks spectacular and is raring to be driven and used. All of the chrome is glistening and like new. Wind wings and a trunk rack are added embellishments. This car could, with little effort, be ashow car, for those who wish to take that seemingly illogical route. Remember that this is one of the early, drum brake models. If you're used to disc brakes, you'll soon realize that these cars don't stop on a dime. But, the prior owner's mechanic checked them out, and my mechanic checked and adjusted them. A new master cylinder and brake adjustment were just completed. If I were to keep the car, I would probably opt for new shoes before too long, and probably rear oil seals. I took the car for a long drive on a low traffic freeway days ago and found myself doing 75 mph without realizing it. The car was smooth and steady all the way with no signs of heating up or any discomfort on a 95 degree day. This car is priced to sell. The reserve is realistic and low when compared to other MGAs for sale. I just want to recoup my investment and deal with the Morgan. $1000 deposit due within 24 hours.PayPal is fine althoughthis listing mechanism is not lettingme utilize it. Zelle is fine too. Total balance is due within 7 days. The car is located in Williamsburg, Virginia, near Hwy 64 for easy pick up. Pease do not ask to see it in person, for obvious reasons in today's climate. I have been honest in mydescription. I have learned to be more leery of what is NOT mentioned in an ad than what IS mentioned. So I havetried to cover everything, and I am happy toanswer any questions or help in recommending a shipper. |
