Description of 1979 MG MGB

1979 MGB

VIN # GHN5UL499598G

Mfg 11/79

I find myself at 77 with four vehicles & a two car garage. This was my simple project to tinker with, then came the opportunity to acquire a 77 XJ6C survivor. At this age I want to devout my time to that.

30% of all MGB's were exported to California and this was one. Suffice to say, there is NO corrosion. While it has left that sunny location, here in the Midwest it has yet to ever see weather,is stored inside all winter. Since bringing the Jag out of storage at a friend’s, the MG has been kept under cover in the driveway.

Now for the important stuff. A previous owner did the major work of taking the Body, Front, Rear & Suspension back to Non US Spec (Chrome Grille, No Rubber Bumpers) It is still however smog equipped as it left CA.I was going to De-smog it, but have read it makes little difference in performance.

Tires, Brakes, Clutch, Exhaust Systemare solid. MSD Ignition !

The five digit odometer shows1645 miles, but the engine, 4 speed with no OD is very solid and performs well. Do do not know if engine work was done, but it performs well & shows no evidence of it's age. I just did five "Touring Laps" at Road America 6/2/22. Had to let the Vettes and the Ferrari 430 pass, but she is comfortable at 65 and corners like a Go Kart.

The photos are pretty self explanatory. She has a New Interior, Convertible op (which looks good but needs some fitting), new Boot Carpet & Spare Cover, Rear Hard Tonneau, Hard Top which came with it & I just installed last week.

There is an easily reachable from the drivers seat Battery Disconnect & the battery is solid.

Replaced a clunky front valance with theSebring last fall. They are usually painted body color with White or YellowTips, but, while the paint is great, have yet to decide what to do as thevehicle would look better in BRG or Red. Have Bonnet pads, but again, did not want to install until possible repaint.

Ok ! Here’s the work that was needed when I got it and has not been addressed. On the panel the Speedo works,Tach does not. Oil Pressure Gauge works (Normal Pressure is 50-70) Temp Gauge does not, but dual Electric Fans cycle normally. Volt Meter works, Petro Gauge not so much. Think it's the sending unit. Heat & Ventilation Inop but not an issue since only driven in good weather. Headlights, Tailights, SideLights work fine, Turn Signals / Running Lights / Emerg Flashers not connected. There is a mystery switch on the upper right dash that does nothing but cause a voltage decrease on the meter.

The radio is interesting. Previous owner replaced the center air vent with a Pioneer Flat Screen unit. Has a ton of unused features and while it works as a radio, it really has little use when driving. Needs a power reroute because the clock & memory are lost when the key is off.

Ask yourself how many other ads on here give you as much to go with ? No surprises here !
