Description of 1960 MG MGA 1600 |
Up for auction is my rust free 1960 MGA roadster with clear Florida title. I bought this car over 25 years ago and began a painstaking frame-off restoration and conversion to a vintage race car. Life intervened and the project took a back burner. As time passed I accumulated a raft of MGA parts but never quite found the time to push the project through to completion. I have literally hundreds of new and used parts. Now the time has come to pass everything along to another enthusiast. At the beginning of the project we completely disassembled the car to the last nut and bolt. The frame was sandblasted. rust repaired. primed and painted. The body was media blasted. new door sills and rocker panels were installed. everything primed and painted off the frame. Right now I would say that the car is 95% completed although some mechanicals need to be carefully checked because of the amount of time the car has been stored -- i. e. 17 years. All the racy stuff is installed including roll structure. fuel cell. fire system. accusump. race gauges. electricals etc. The photos in this ad were taken today and the car still looks great because it was stored under cover in my heated and air conditioned shop. I've posted a large number of older pix of the restoration process as well as a narrative description on the Photo Bucket site listed below. There are also some pix of the extra parts that are included with the auction as well as an exhaustive listing of the extra parts. This auction includes two engines for the car. a complete 1622 MGA full race engine (never assembled) and a 1800 MGB "drivers school" engine in the car. I also have two fresh (i. e. rebuilt) MGA transmissions -- one wide ratio and one close ratio. Both engines have loads of new HP parts. high end internals. complete machine work and balancing. new aluminum flywheels. HD clutches. etc. The narrative posted on PhotoBucket has a full description of the preparation of both engines. The suspension is all fresh and built to race specs. Front brakes are MGB calipers and drilled rotors. rear brakes are super rare MGA Twin Cam discs with stainless steel Jag calipers. race pads front and rear. Tilton adjustable pedal assembly. HD front shocks and Spax gas rear shocks. Also included are five new Jag 72 spoke wire wheels and four new spline drive (Made in UK) Mini-Lite replicas. Please note that this auction includes everything MGA that I own. I am not interested in breaking out and selling individual parts. large or small. Please go to PhotoBucket to see far more detail then space allows here. There is also a description of what needs to be done to the car on PhotoBucket. I've started the bidding at $6. 00. 00 to eliminate the twelve year olds with nothing better to do. Please contact me if you would like to view the car prior to the auction closing. The car will also be listed on the North American MGA Registry (NAMGAR) web site soon. I may be willing to help with transportation after the sale at my cost. Thanks for looking. News Flash. eBay won't allow me to post an ad with the PhotoBucket address in it. Sooo. please check out my ad on the NAMGAR web site for the PhotoBucket address. I will post the NAMGAR ad in the next couple days. Thanks.
