1962 Austin Mini Cooper Targa Newfoundland Rally Car '62 Austin Mini Cooper rally car. Built from the ground-up by Dyrk Bolgerin 2009 using a genuine'62 Austin Mini Cooper shell to compete at the 2009 Targa Newfoundland Rally, where it finished 2nd in class and 13th overall. Constructed to comply withTarga rules, the car is also licensed for street usein its home province of Manitoba with headlights, signals, wipers, horn and the like. Great opportunity to buy an as-ralliedMini Cooper in excellent condition with competition provenance. History I am selling this car for Dyrk, who has kept the car in heated storage but not driven it since it finished the Targa in 2009. Dyrk has kept the car with the intention of returning to the Targa with it, but has been so focused on vintagecircuit racing for the past several years that he does not see himself having time for more full out rally competition.The car is currently as shown in the photos (all of which were taken within the past two months, save for the photos of it running at Targa in 2009). Over the past month, the oil has been changed, the fuel system drained and replenished, and it has beenfired-up. eBay only allows 24 photos in their listings, but a set of over 75 photos of the car (most taken within the past two months, with a few historical photos from the Targa in 2009 thrown in) can be found on my Photobucket account at the following link: http://s1346.photobucket.com/user/tiga78/library/Molly%20II?sort=3&page=1 Short videos of the car running at the Targa in 2009 and of the car running this month are available on request. Body The body was sandblasted when the car was built in 2009, had the necessary metalwork done, and is now completely solid with no rust issues anywhere on thebody structure. Fender flares are fiberglass, and have some cracks (they were taped up at the rally) - the right-hand front flare has a small piece chipped off, but it is included.Hood (bonnet) is a liftoff with straps.Aside from the flares and bonnet, the rest of the body is metal. The body's rally modifications include a TIG welded chrome moly roll cage, reinforced front and rear subframes, tie-down / tow hooks, and a fully removable trunk (boot) lid for better access to the trunk area (the trunk lid can also be opened with its strap and left on the car with the wire holds in place). The car has a heavy duty alloy skid plate installed. Paint has good shine, with much of its Targa livery still intact. It is all stick-on (nothing painted on), but since it has been there for upwards of eight years now, the buyer may need to do some work on the paint if intending to remove the stickers. There are a few chips and scratches from the Targa (most notable on the passenger side A-pillar and driver's side rocker - see closeup photos), but the car hasn't had anyoff-road incidents. There are a few small spots of black overspray on the front of the car from some paintwork that was going on too close to the car in storage; Dyrk has had some of them buffed out already with good success, so the rest should be buff-able as well. The windscreen glass is very good with lexanmaterial used for the side and rear windows. The rear windows pop out on their stock latches for ventilation and can be opened fully (with quick-release pins in the latches) for access to the spare tire and tools. Mechanicals The engine isan Austin MiniCooper Smodel bored out to 1360cc that hasbeen race engineered to useGraham Russell pistons, cylinder head and rally camshaft.Carburetion for this setup is satisfied withtwin HS6 (1 and 3/4 inch) SU's as well astaller float bowls to addressfuel starvation on hard cornering. Ignition is 123 (electronic distributor). The engine was dyno'd at 131 crankshaft horsepowerbefore being used for competition in the 2009 Targa Newfoundland Rally. In January 2017, the ITG carb filter in the photos was added and the engine was fired up and run for about 10 minutes.Oil pressure registered 70 PSI on the oil pressure gauge cold, and remained above 60 when it warmed up.A“dry” compression test followed and the four cylinders were consistent at 160. Transmission is a straightcut synchromesh gearbox that Dyrk reports performed well at the Targa. Car has a high-torque starter, 8-gallon fuel cell, and a Facet fuel pump. The radiator is a UK-made Radtec aluminum unit. Car has a Maniflow rally race muffler with large bore headers and a reverse megaphone exhaust. Interior Interior is in as-rallied condition, with two Sparco race seats on custom mounts, tool bag, and all instrumentsintact. Instruments are a stock Cooper S 130 MPH speedometer, with Autometer oil pressure and water temperature to the sides. A tach is mounted on the driver's side at the top of the A-pillar. A Brantz rally computer is still installed which takes the measurement from the right rear wheel hub. Race harnesses are out of date and will need to be replaced if buyer intends to use the car in competition. Wheels / Tires Wheels on the car are CMW (Classic Motor Works), a three piecealuminum 10 x 6 racing wheel designed and built by CMW. The car comes with 5 CMW wheels in total (the 4 on the car plus one spare - photos show the spare tire mount, but the spare itself is not installed). The Yokohama A032R tires were installed new in 2009.Dyrk is a dealer of 10-inch Mini race tires and would be happy to give the buyer a quote on a new set of American Racers, Yokohama, Hoosier or other brands if desired. Logistics Inspection:The car is located in a storage building slightly outside Winnipeg, Manitoba, a short distance away from Dyrk’s home, but he is available to open the building for inspections on short notice. Winnipeg is located about 60 miles north of the US border at Pembina, North Dakota, or if flying in, its international airport is an approximately 40-minute drive from the car’s location. Payment:A non-refundable deposit of$2,000.00 USD must be made via Paypal within 24 hours of the auction’s close. Full payment via wire transfer or cash on pickup is required within 7 days of the auction’s close. Shipping:Car will be sold with a bill of sale and a clean Manitoba Transfer of Ownership Document (our version of a title).
