Description of 1960 Mini Classic Mini |
This 1960 Austin Mini MK1 was built as a tribute to the 1965 Morris Cooper S Monte Carlo Rally-winning car driven by Timo Mäkinen and Paul Easter. According to the included BMI Heritage Trust Certificate, the car originally left the factory on March 14, 1960 as a US-spec left-hand drive Saloon De-Luxe model finished in Speedwell Blue with grey cloth upholstery. It has since been modified with a right-hand drive conversion and a number of exterior, braking, interior, and mechanical modifications as detailed below. Power comes from a transplanted 1,275cc inline-four with an alloy intake manifold and SU carburetor paired with a fully-synchronized 4-speed transmission. Over $2k in service was completed in June 2018 by Heritage Garage in Costa Mesa, California. This Mini is now being offered with a large service file, spare parts, a service manual, and a clean California title in my name. A repaint in red with a white roof was completed three years ago, and 1965 Monte Carlo Rally-style decals, race numbers, Cooper S badging, replica license plates, wheel arches, lightweight grille and buttons, and Monza-style fuel-filler caps for the twin fuel tanks were equipped as a tribute to the rally-winning car. Additional add-ons include five Lucas driving lights, a leather bonnet strap, rubber boot lid strap, and an air horn. Powder coated Cooper S wheels without hubcaps are mounted over a 7.5″ Cooper S disc brake kit. A list of interior modifications: Rally dashboard Replica rally clocks Lucas switches, floor-mounted starter button OEM Lucas pea lights Leather-wrapped sport steering wheel, chrome steering column drop bracket Gearshift modified for extra clearance, period shift knob Sport bucket seats with 4-point harnesses New red carpets Rally door pads Fire extinguisher Door kick plates Rear demister panel Tommy bars (tools) mounted on rear parcel shelf The original "magic wand" shifter has been replaced by a floor-mounted unit, and a new Aventi map light was recently installed. This Mini also features a NOS Lucas washer bottle as well as twin windshield washers which can be operated via switches on both sides of the cabin. Exterior and interior lights are reportedly operational, the cigarette lighter outlet is said to have power, and the rear light indicator works. Instrumentation includes an inoperable faux Lucas tachometer and an odometer showing just over 2k miles. The car has a 1,275cc inline-four and synchronized 4-speed gearbox. Induction is through through a single SU carburetor and alloy intake manifold, while other underhood details include an aluminum rocker cover. Over $2k in service was completed in June 2018 at Heritage Garage in Costa Mesa, California including a new fuel pump, radiator and associated hoses, battery and tender, oil/filter change. The June 2018 work also included a new stabilizer bar, bushings, brakes, and joint set. A free-flowing header feeds a center-exit exhaust. Additional undercarriage photos are displayed in the gallery below. The service file, in-process build details, and several recent receipts are depicted in the photo gallery. A host of spare parts, a service manual, and various other items also accompany the sale as shown above. Please call or text 562-3I0-6932 Asking price is $23k. Interesting trades considered. |
