Description of 1964 Mini Classic Mini |
This is a for real no excuses 1275 Cooper S. This Australian built car, with the very desirable wind up windows, has all the correct pieces and markings. The chassis number matches the VIN plate, the engine number matches the VIN plate, the body number is correct. The correct badging is present, as are twin fuel tanks and of course disk brakes. It does have the oil cooler and the correct 12G940 head. And yes, if you look at the paint code the roof was originally white. When I drove it home some years ago the gearbox was in working order. The engine is not stuck, I believe it would run if the fuel system were cleaned. This is a hydolastic (wet) car and the system leaks, so the car is not drivable. The right hand window mechanism will require attention, it's stuck. This will be a straight forward restoration project for someone who would like to have a really fun, rather rare, valuable car, worth between $35,000 to $40,000 when finished. The few parts that will be necessary are readily available, usually from multiple sources. The conversion to left hand drive, if desired, is very straight forward. A new LH steering rack is available from Mini Sport for $76.56. This is not a rusty car, as can be seen in the photos. All the glass is good. The 4 Yokohama tires on the GB wheels do not have age cracks and still have mold marks. When is the next time you will see a real 1275 Cooper S project in this condition? This is a 54 year old used car, I have described it to the best of my abilities. No warranties are expressed or implied. |
