Description of 1993 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 |
project started ....... and then..... 1 month after I bought this one, I had just started to restore it, and then........... the car I wanted all along landed on my lap. As a result I never titled the car but I have the title from the person signed by the person I bought it from and contacts and receipts... before you read this please know this, I am 'that' mechanic that other mechanics will take their car to when they can't figure it out...., I don't work on cars for a living, just a major car geek guy for thirty plus years. now for the facts: work done: new brakes slot/vented rotors rebuilt calipers complete line flush. Got the engine running very well (ignition control modul, Idle control were bad, basic clean and adjust 'stuff', nothing too deep... bought new wheels and tires for the car but have not put them on, they will be listed in another add if you are interested. transmission shifts fine, motor runs great, turbos sound and feel better than the car I am keeping as my daily, This car has ICE cold !!! A/C. my computer says ignition cycles and O2 sensors are spot on, injectors are fine, but I think their might be low pressure from the pump or weak regulator. I have not driven the car except around my neighborhood so I don't have a complete list of what is wrong as I have been too busy restoring the other one. The bad: everything I know about, not a complete list.... slipping AC belt....tires are shot, dash vents are toast (like most of them) clear coat is crusty drivers seat, tach does not work (non ICM issue) things I would check if I were you and buying this car: Timing belt is a given, check the motor mounts or front half shafts, slight clunk felt (nothing major) bearings and ball joints are tight, I would do a synchromesh fluid change with redline heavy shockproof (3 parts to 1)...that will dial in the 5 speed like new again, oil crankcase flush and change, fuel pump leak-down check, pretty basic stuff for a car with this mileage. Body is straight, couple loose screws here and there chipped turn signal lens, and PLEASE paint the back bumper licence plate area back to black !!! I honestly feel this is a 300k , I know when a car still has sou, and when it's time to strip for parts...this is NOT a parts car..... if another car geek gets it and knows how to flush a system of carbon and varnish and adjust the oil weight viscosity to maximize the life term . I am 95% positive this engine has never been opened except for timing belts and maybe the turbo's have been done up, as I said, they sound and feel better than any of the other 5 VR-4's I have restored, driven and sold..... so think of it this way .....if you are a gambling kind of person, you might find that you got yourself something special. (it is why I bought it) if you plan on buying the car and just changing the oil and then driving it till it dies...please don't.... these cars are disappearing fast. if you plan on buying a car to fix up for the track, I have two other VR-4's that would be better suited for you that I will be selling as parts cars ....as I said, I have had too many of these cars and I know a keeper that is worth saving when I see and listen to one. Thank you. |
