Description of 1993 Nissan Truck SHORT WHEELBASE

Vehicle Details

This is my 1993 Nissan d21 hardbody 4x4 that was imported from Japan. I’ve owned this for almost 2 years now and it’s been a blast to drive! You won’t see another 4-door d21 at your local meet or trail.

This particular vehicle started life with a carbureted 2.0l 4cylinder in Japan. I believe it was used as a fire service vehicle because it was orange at one point! Original color is white. It has been painted blue over the orange. Shines up well enough with a nice buff, but I never really cared because it saw it’s fair share of the wilderness. That being said, the paint is not perfect and there are a few dents around the body. Overall it presents well.

The entire drivetrain has been swapped from a 1997 Pathfinder. This includes the engine, transmission, and even the brakes (larger)! This truck drives like a much newer vehicle. It can maintain 130kph (~80mph) on the highway with ease. Everything for the a/c is there, but will need the high and low pressure lines custom made. They are currently mocked up with heater hose to get the correct routing, but I never finished that project. The weather in Southern California is too nice! Heater is nice and toasty. Power steering works great.

It is sitting on centerline wheels with 31” all terrains in good shape. No vibrations or wobble at speed. Super smooth. It has bilstein shocks up front and some “red” ones out back. Not sure the brand but it feels nice and tight.

No rust that I can see anywhere!

Problems:

- It has an aftermarket central locking system which technically functions, but 3 of the 4 actuators are dead. Luckily the active one is the driver door!

- all electric windows work, but the rears go up very slowly. Sometimes gets stuck and you have to help it up. Likely dirty window tracks.

- seems to burn a bit of oil. These engines only take 3.5qts so I’m anal about keeping it topped up. I usually add about a quart between oil changes (3-4K miles).

- not registerable in California unless you know someone on the inside (dmv shenanigans)

Overall this truck has served me very well and I will miss it dearly. I’ve purchased a frontier and don’t really need this toy anymore. i would hop in and drive this to New York tomorrow! It is an old vehicle so expect some old vehicle quirks. I would still say it’s better than 95% of the d21s on the road!
