Description of 1967 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight |
Up for bid is "Eleanor", y 1967 Oldsmobile 98 Town Sedan, ith 49k original miles. She's a half city-block long, uiet, owerful and smooth as silk. The exterior was poorly painted at some point in the past. When I bought her just a few months ago, he had a few rust bubbles along the back window and a poorly repaired bang on the hood. I had professional restoration shop Insane Cyclesin Morgantown, V paint and install the hood, nd they also pulled the back glass and fixed all the minor bubbles the right way, ood as new. In addition, completed the following:
Now.... she runs just like you'd expect, tarts easy, hifts smooth and stops like you'd expect from a giant 1960's beast with original brakes... so adequate. The body is solid, o bondo, o rust, nly a scuff or two and a stone chip here or there. The underside is nearly as clean... only minimal surface rust under the carpet in the trunk, ock solid floor pans all around, ust free gas tank.... she appears to have been well undercoated from the start. When I dropped the tank to do the sending unit, he bolts turned right off, asy peasy, o penetrating oil needed! The paint job is pretty much the weak point. She's a great 10 foot car, ut get closer and you'll notice the trunk deck has a different sheen than the rest, here's a minor sag in the driver's side rear pillar, inor scuffs (some would likely buff out). She really could use a professional coat of paint snoot to tail. The chrome is in good shape... no rust, ut imperfections starting. Not bad at all, ight now, ut heading toward a re-chrome if you wanted to show it. The weather stripping is toast and would be the next thing on the list to do. It does not leak in the rain at all.... but it's badly dry rotted. TOWN SEDAN.... ie no options! She's crank windows, anual seats, anual locks. About the only options are AC, does not blow cold),factory 8 track player and trunk release... the trunk release is vacuum and worked when I got it, ut now seems to just hiss a bit and not open the trunk... I have not looked at ityet to see if I can fix it. Many folks think the Town Sedan had a cleaner, icer look to the interior than the more well appointed versions. THE INTERIOR: This is where she really shines... take a look at the pics. Only very minor issues here... no rips or tears in the seats, o stains other than the carpets, o cracks in the dash and a perfect headliner. The wood grain is awesome, ther than on the face of the 8 track where it bubbled. She turns heads driving down the street, ut the interior makes folks ooooh and ahhhh.... THE STORY OF ELEANOR: She came originally from the south, ndended upin May of 1995,owned by a Major, orkingat the Pentagon. The car, riven by the Major's wife, till sports a Dept. of Defensesticker for Ft. Belvior at the top center of her windshield! As the couple aged, hey sold off or gave away some of their vehicles, nd Eleanor ended up with a relative in Pittsburgh, here she sat in a family member's garage for about three years until I spotted her on Craigslist. I do have the Major's name, s it's in the paperwork for the car, ut I will not list it here publicly out of respect. This veteran of Korea and Vietnampassed awaythis yearand is to be buried as a hero in Arlington. With gratitude for his service, shall keep his name out of an eBay listing for a car. THE MILEAGE ... is the 49k original? I truly think so.... look atthe interior... that's not a 149k interior! Also, have VA state inspection receipts for 2000 and 2009 showing 36k and 48k miles respectively. No one can be certain, ut it sure looks like a 49k mile car to me! WHAT SHE NEEDS: Weather stripping all around, well angle set maybe... I haven't touched it, or a show car - repaint.... for daily driver.. nothing, he's good to go! Disclaimer: I'm not a mechanic.... just a guy who likes neat old cars and can fix a few things on them. I am almost certain there are other minor things she may need... like any nearly 50 year old, he may have unknown issues ready to show up. I'm telling you everything I know, ut I make no guarantees.... So.. all in all, leanor is a great daily driver.... cruise in style, njoy the admiration she gets and have a blast! She's also a great starting point for a full restoration. Redo the chrome, ive her a fresh paint job front to back and few minor fixes... and she's ready to show! QUESTIONS: Call me... 304-216-8867. I will answer what ever questions you may have, ake more photos or videos if you're serious about her. Just let me know! DISCLAIMERS: SCAMMERS... I'm not an idiot. Find an easier target. My deposit is $200.... I will keep it if you don't come and get the car. Please don't bid if you don't intend to buy! THE CAR IS FOR SALE LOCALLY, o I reserve the right to end the auction early! ADDITION... 7/19/15 ... Hey folks... looks like a lot of people are at least interested in my Eleanor.... thanks! Just a heads up... she is listed locally, nd I may be showing her Monday to a local buyer who called.... you know how this goes... he most likely won't show, ut I wanted to mention it. If you think you may want this car, ou may want to snatch her up! Thanks for looking and happy bidding! |
