Description of 1963 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight coupe |
This is an original low mile 1963 oldsmobile.....one turn of the key one press of the pedal and she idles on her choke. One more press and the high compression 394 settles right into a perfect idle.No stalling, just how she was made to do in 1963..idles whisper quiet and smooth.Drives great.Although a 2V carb,at 60mph push the pedal to the floor and this big carabsolutely takes off.I was surprised how quick this car is. True time capsule.Everything works.Gauges, ights, mergency brake all work.Even little things like ashtray light, radio light, ignition light, old start light etc.Radio turns on,and lights up but speaker just crackles.Id say its the volume knob.It has 3 hand written build/option list sheetsattachedunder the seats.I have its original owners manual, some brochures owners card and protectoplate. Its cowl tag and sheets show deluxe interior deluxe steering wheel deluxe spinner hubcaps, backup lights.radio, hitewall tires, power steering power brake, 2 speed wipers, automatic transmission, tinted windshield. Code FFCdecodes tofirst F, lue bottom, second , blue roof, and Cmeans white stripe on its optional spinner caps. 4 new radial tires put on to replace the old bias ply.Still has all 4 original 1963 installed spiral shocks, original radiator, arb, keys with knockouts still in them etc.I have pics of oil change stickers in ad showing mileage accuracy over the years. She was in the same family since new and delivered November,1962....The first owner had her from November 1962 till 1970,his nephe, a Doctor (born in 1903) owned her from 1970 till 1990 when he stopped driving due to age,(see photo of exxon oil change sticker on radiator support, looking closely,it reads Dr. Loehwing,12/5/83 miles 63,325 ),he passed in 1993, nd left it to his son (born in 1939)he owned her from 1993 till 2013.She was stored in their home garage by him from pretty much unused from1990 till 2013.(see inspection sticker pic from 1990) The Car was garaged all its life. Its high beams are still its original T-3s.Seats, ash, headlinerand overallinterior is incredible.Carpet is ok,a new high quality carpet would make the interior pop.It has most its factory pain, except drivers fender was profesionallyrepainted (i see no damage repair) a long time ago and a small section midway on right rear quarter, that color match is dead on.Original 53 year old paint shines ok,has fade, has 52 years of chips a few scratches and spots on hood where paint is simply missing .The right door has many chips below the moulding. Roof and trunk a bit cloudy but certainly could be polished better. All glass including original tinted windshield is extremely clear clean and beautiful. Its the nicest 50+year old original car glass Ive ever seen.Very similar body to 63/64 impala, but a fraction of the $.Its an original car.Its in a condition you would have seen in 1970-1975.Its as straight as an arrow. Please be real with your expectations, this is a nice survivor car, older than me and most people reading this, its NOT a perfect show car....It has a tiny spot of rust just starting to show on the lower front right fender a spot the size of a quarter just starting on the very lower left quarter, and some just starting on the inside tops of the front portion of its fenders...common andcan't be seen with hood closed. The rear bumper has a slight push in the left center.None of this in my opinion needs repair and does not detract from the originality of the car,Ive seen California cars with more rust.Fully restored cars are easy to find and are all over the place. I appreciate an original car over a restored car...thats me,maybe you too. New in the last month: Valve cover gaskets, fuel pump gasket, thermostat and gasket, drivers door glasschannel, oil change, brake booster rebuild, new master cylinder, new ignition wires, Also, theoriginalfront doorpanels are made up of 3 sections of different vinyl. The lowest section and its backingboard structure were damaged on the right door panel...where to find original vinyl material??? I found it in Oregon...the company bought all of oldsmobiles NOS material and had this exact material.EXACT from 1963...I paid 150 bucks for a yard and installed 2/3rds the original material along with the new material on a new 64 backboard(same os olds)it came out great.(see pics)...you can have the rest of the material. .................I set an honest, rue auction noreserve. Small,Non refundable Deposit due immediately at auction close to secure the car..untill submitted itsavailable to first buyer.Bids from newobeyers, with no communication, ill be cancelled. Please do NOT bid unless yourate buying. Please ask any questions before the end of auction, not after.Thank you. |
