Description of 1922 Oldsmobile 43AT "Skeeter" Truck Beverly Hillbillies |
This is an amazing vehicle in exceptional condition. It was in a barn most of it's life. 1922 is the last year that the automobile was called a "Horseless Carriage". I call it a "Skeeter" because this is a name associated with a conversion done during the 2nd World War years to avoid auto taxes and get extra gas ration stamps. Originally. this was a very fancy Old's. 4 cylinder 43AT "Touring" car. Very expensive in it's day ($1. 45 VS a Model "T" ford at $348). It's pretty identical to the Beverly Hillbillies 1922 Olds conversion. It came off an old Vineyard property in Wine Country Sonoma County . California where she was converted to a flat bed farm truck and hauled grape lugs. This vehicle is solid. Obviously it didn't get much use as the condition shows. It is 14 1/2' long front to back. The steel reinforced. ood flatbed is 6' long X 65" wide and 38" high from the ground. This vehicle is pretty much original and runs well. It has been worked on. The body has what I believe to be the original paint and no body work has been done. It's rock solid. The engine is original. but repainted along the way by a previous owner. Original Zenith carburetor. wood spoke wheels. wipers. mirror. original walnut steering wheel(refinished). gauges (working). lamps(working). It has a new ignition switch and tires and original brass spec. ID plate under the hood. It has been re-upholstered. The brakes have been redone and the clutch worked on. It is registered and insured. Has some nice National Auto Club and California Auto Club plaques. and a pair of real 1922 California license plates. There are places in the bed where you can place side and back "gates" for hauling. and. some early paper when it was first bought in Sebastopol Ca. in 1922. It's just a very kool looking Old's. "truck"!. a "Skeeter". I hate to part with her. but this oldie is not getting the use or attention she deserves. Email if you have any questions.
