Description of 1959 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight 88 |
1959 was the last year of the big Horsepower for Oldsmobile until the muscle car era would arrive, t was also the last time Oldsmobile won the Daytona 500, ith Richard Petty at the wheel of his 1959 Olds Dynamic 88 Hardtop he won by only a fender length. The 371 Cubic Inch Motor was known for it's big horsepower and even bigger torque. The Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 for 1959 had fins that started atop the front fenders and rose as they went to the back in rocket-shaped appendages. The Oldsmobile designers called it the 'Linear Look'. It was thought to be a cleaner sleeker look.
This Dynamic 88 is powered by the standard 371 cubic-inch 'Rocket' V8 engine and fitted with an optional four-speed 'Jetaway' Hydra-Matic transmission. Motor runs great and strong. There are 59k miles on the odometer and i would think they are original by the conditions of this car. The hoses and clips are the original ones on the motor and in great condition. This car is also power steeringequipped. This car runs, hifts, teers and stops very smoothly. Fuel system was gone through with a new tank and senderinstalled before running the car after long storage. The exhaust was also replaced with original style.
The body on this Olds is in great original condition. Very dry body with only slight rust on the top driver side fender and small dent on rear there is also a small curb scrape on passenger rocker. Floors are solid; trunk is solid with original trim panels inside. Floor jack and tire iron arethere but no tire. Bodylines arelaser straight. All door are 2 click doors. Paint appears to be mostly original with just some touch up areas. There is great shine to the paint andI'm sure it would buff out to a high luster. Bright work is in good shape with some pitting to bumpers. This sedan is in really remarkable condition.
The interior is still the original interior. Car is a time capsule! Really ingreatcondition. Door panel are in great shape, eats are in great shape with just some wear showed on front seat. Some stitching has come apart on front seat bottom, ear seat had barely any use. Original headliner is in like new condition with only slight discoloration, ll trim and chrome is complete and in amazing shape on doors and dash. All the lights on the car work; both interior and exterior. Speedometer is acting up at times but odometer works as it should. This model is equipped with reverse lights as well. Radio works great!
This car is in great originalconditions. This is the real deal garage find time capsule. Ican'tstress enough how nice and complete and original it truly is. All the rubber seals around doors and trunk are soft and in great shape. All glass is good on the car, o cracks or chips. The window felts are soft. All rubber door bumpers are there and still soft and supple just like a new car. Door latches still shine like new. Car starts with one turn of the key every time.
I have not seen another car in such great original condition. This is a wonderful example for a trueOldsmobile enthusiast. Great car for the collector or for a family to cruise on the weekends. Please feel free to ask any questions or if you need pictures. I am sureI'm forgetting some more great things to say about this car. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding!! |
