Description of 1975 Oldsmobile Cutlass Hurst/Olds |
442 W-30. Those aren't some kind of code, hey're the name of the nastiest Oldsmobiles in history. While performance might have been blunted in the mid-70s, his rare 1975 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 coupe keeps the torch burning thanks to a burly 455 cubic inch V8, n upgraded suspension, nd a Hurst makeover that gives it a ton of performance street cred.Hurst/Olds cars have always been some combination of white, old, nd black, nd this cool coupe looks fast dressed in Cameo White with gold pinstripes. By 1975, he 442 was an option on the Cutlass lineup, nd the W-30 big block was added on top of that, aking it one of the more expensive offerings from the Rocket Division that year. As a result, nly 1293 white ones were built and today they definitely stand out. The 442 was easy to spot with its louvered hood, alf-roof treatment that eliminated the rear quarter windows, nd, f course, he gold stripe package. You also got standard T-tops as part of the deal and a Salon grille up front just to make it look a little different. The paint is in good condition, bviously a recent respray, nd they duplicated the original markings and stripes rather well, iving this big coupe a sporty look that's far from over-done. Nice chrome bumpers are about the only extraneous trim on the big Olds, iving it a very restrained look in a time known for excess. The white interior is pretty cool, eaturing bucket seats and a console that relive the glory days of Oldsmobile performance. The seat covers are reproductions, ew black carpets look great, oo, nd work well with the matching black dash and console. Of course, s Hurst/Olds, t just wouldn't be complete without the Dual Gate shifter for the TH400 3-speed automatic transmission and we have to admit the gauges look pretty sporty in those two round pods. There's an aftermarket dash pad that adds some contrast to the interior, omething the woodgrained dash appliques can't quite manage. A JVC AM/FM/cassette stereo head unit is slotted neatly into the original radio's spot in the center stack and as an upscale Olds, his one is equipped with A/C, ower windows and locks, tilt column, nd even cruise control. There's also a giant trunk that's fully equipped with a matching fifth wheel and jack assembly. The W-30 package was basically the 455 cubic inch V8, hich, n 1975, as good for about 190 horsepower, ardly earth-shattering. However, his one sports an upgraded Edelbrock carburetor and a proper dual exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers, oth big improvements over the original equipment, o it feels quite a bit stronger on the road. The engine bay is neatly detailed with corporate turquoise engine paint and signs of conscientious maintenance throughout its life. It starts easily with a familiar Oldsmobile sound and idles well, nd with 455 cubic inches, ig torque is unavoidable, o it feels punchy around town. The TH400 shifts crisply and it's got highway gears out back, o it's a fantastic highway car with a great luxury car ride. Cool Rally II wheels are painted Hurst Gold for a bit of contrast and wrapped with 245/60/15 BFGoodrich T/A radials.A rare car that runs great and is loaded with options, his Olds is an affordable muscle car with plenty of history on its side, oo.
