Description of 1958 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight |
This beautiful car is for sale due to the death of the owner this is a car he never intended to sell. My husbandloved buying - fixing- and sharing beautiful cars. As you can tell by our feedback we have sold many fabulous cars. It is painful for us to sell this car he loved so much. He passed away in late 2015 and nowwe areparting with thisspectacular collector to pay medical bills. I only have a few pictures of it for the ad, but I can get more and send you the information. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to call me (719)331-1024 J-2 TRIPOWER………..TRANS-PORTABLE RADIO
I’ve always said that the best way to BUY a classic car is to let the other guy fix it all up and then let HIM take the financial hit instead of you, when it sells. So if you’re lookin’ for a ’58 Olds and like what you see, read on……..
When I had this car restored, money was no object. Now the object is no money. I had it restored for me, not to sell to someone else, but things have changed and it needs to go to someone who will love it like I do.
This really pretty ’58 Holiday Coupe is a rust free California/Colorado example with XXXXX original miles that has been professionally restored to show quality condition. Power steering, power brakes, no a/c.
The 371 ci engine with the J-2 tripower option is believed to be the original that runs strong with no leaks, no smoke and no funny noises. The 4-speed Jetaway Hydramatic transmission shifts smoothly with no slips, no leaks and no funny noises. The rear end is solid as well.
The exterior paint is new Heather (lilac) with Mountain Mist (darker) accents and an Alaskan White top. All colors are correct 1958 paint colors that were offered by Oldsmobile, although the car’s original colors were lite blue and a white top. The paint is base/clear coat and has been color sanded and polished to a glossy mirror-like finish. All exterior trim was removed prior to painting. This is a body-on-frame restoration – a frame-off resto wasn’t necessary The colors on this guy are just stunning – at least, WE think so…………
The exterior chrome has been newly replated and maintains its brilliant shine. The stainless and pot metal are in excellent condition, with some pot metal having been replated. The wide whitewall tires are in good shape and have decent tread remaining.
The interior has been newly replaced including headliner, sun visors, front and rear seats, kick panels, door panels, rear quarter panels, rear package shelf and carpet (everything). All interior metal surfaces are newly repainted to match the exterior colors. In addition, I have the correct purple material for this car that I bought from SMS in Oregon. It took them more than a year to get around to producing it and I got fed up waiting for them and had the other fabric installed that you see in the pix. There is supposed to be enough SMS material to redo the entire car. At least, that’s what I paid for……it IS correct and should go with the car.
This Olds has an extremely rare option called the TRANS-PORTABLE RADIO. AND IT WORKS!! This AM transistor (yes) radio is located in the dash and normally runs on the car’s 12 volt system, like any other radio. However, this radio can be pulled out of the dash by releasing the lock inside the glove box and pulling the built-in handle on the radio; once removed, it can be played by simply turning it on, because it runs on the AA batteries that are stored in the radio, and it has its own speaker and antenna. When the radio is removed from the dash, a spring loaded stainless steel lid automatically flips down to cover the hole where the radio was. When the radio is pushed back in to the dash, the power source reverts back to the car’s 12 volt system and stops utilizing the AA batteries. The radio, and all of the wiring behind it, is newly restored at a cost of big bucks! When I bought the car, I told my wife that, if I didn’t fix anything else, I was gonna get that radio fixed……. Have you ever seen one that works??? Have you ever even seen one?? Hey - have you ever even heard of one? They’re that RARE! Be the first/only kid on your block to have your own truly trans-portable car radio…….end of commercial.
The brakes have new front wheel cylinders and the master cylinder/booster has just been rebuilt. Everything else on the car works as it should – lites, gages, indicators, etc. The glass is all good and there are no fluid leaks of any kind, color or flavor. I believe there is a slow electrical leak that requiries the battery to be disconnected to prevent draining when the car is sitting for long periods. That’s the only problem I know of on this guy……..Be advised that I’m no mechanic – I have to pay to have EVERYTHING done to my cars. As a result, I pay a lot to my mechanics to make my cars as dependable as possible, because if they were to break down on the road, all I could do would be to call for a tow truck.
I believe the car to be 100% roadworthy (I drove it home 1,200 miles from California when I bought it, and BEFORE I had everything fixed) and, if you wish, I’ll personally drive it to your doorstep anywhere in the contiguous 48. Or fly in to Colo Spgs and have all the fun driving it home yourself. ROAD TRIP!! Please callBrook at US Toll Free at 1-800-777-5503, or email for delivery terms, more details, questions or comments.
The current March NADA.com book value on this car is: #2 condition - $65,205 #3 condition - $37,435 #4 condition - $17,280 NADA does not place a value on #1 cars.
For the edification of eBay purists, this is not a strict No Reserve auction. I have not placed a reserve on the car, however, so if you place an opening bid and nobody else bids, the car is gonna be yours.
I will expect a $1,000 deposit within2 days of the end of the auction and the balance within7 days of the end of the auction.
Didn’t intend to write War and Peace – thanx for your patience and interest.
