Description of 1981 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight REGENCY |
Up for sale is our treasured 1981 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight Regency DIESEL. This Olds represents the ultimate sedan for the 1981 model year, being the largest sedan in the Oldsmobile line up, trimmed out with the Regency package, and optioned with the Olds Diesel. We purchased this car last year from its original owner (a diesel mechanic) who took supreme care of this automobile for its entire life. This car has never been left outside or even driven in the snow. Having only 87k miles, this rare footnote in automotive history is a genuine survivor and makes us feel like we are stepping back in time every time we take it out for a cruise. The car runs and drives great. In fact, The 5.7 liter diesel starts right up as it should on 25 degree mornings instantly after the glow plug cycle finishes without the slightest hesitation. The 1981 model year diesels received many factory updates like a stronger block, roller valve train, and a water separator for the fuel system. This car has what is referred to as a “DX” block and is far and away superior to the engines that GM put in these sedans from 1978-1980. This car is a real time capsule, but is by no means perfect. I tried to highlight all of the areas of the car that need any cosmetic defect in the photos as best as I can. The paint on the car is not perfect showing a few minor door dings from careless motorists as well as some normal road debris wear on the front. Three out of the four bumper filler panels are missing, but are available in the aftermarket. The headliner in the car sags a bit (like every 80s GM car or truck!) and the AC needs a recharge. Other than these minor details, the only other part of the car that is not functional is the trunk pop button in the glove box. This rare Oldsmobile would be a great addition to anybody’s car collection.
