Description of 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado |
1966Oldsmobile Toronado This is a NO Reserve auction for my 1966 Olds Toronado. I have decided to sell my project and move on to something else. TheOldsmobile Toronadois apersonal luxury carthat was produced byOldsmobilefrom model years 1966 to 1992. Designed to compete with theFord ThunderbirdandGeneral Motors' ownBuick Riviera, the Toronado is historically significant as the first U.S.-producedfront-wheel driveautomobile since the demise of theCordin 1937. The Toronado placed third in the 1966European Car of the Yearcontest, a distinction no other American car has achieved before or since, and won the 1966Motor Trend Car of the Yearaward in the U.S. The engine is a 425 cubic inch V-8 rated at 385hp that is unique to the Toronado. Transmission is a Heavy-dutyTurbo-Hydramatic425 three-speed automatic transmission (similar to the Turbo 400 but a front drive version). This example has been mostly restored by me and a previous owner. It has the following items restored: 1). The Engine (original to the car) was completely rebuilt. Although it was several years ago it has very few miles on it. 2). Transmission was rebuilt at the same time as the engine. 3). Complete interior is factory colors 4). Complete exhaust system 5). Carb rebuilt and brakes rebuilt. 6). All the gauges work as expected. 6). Completely repainted in factory colors. 7). New weatherstrip. Issues: 1).The paint: I have put around $4500 into paint. There was minimal rust and no significant dents, however the company that painted the car did a mediocre job. It has slight color variations, and spot where they color sanded it to aggressively and burned through the paint on the edges. It has some rough spots. The company has since gone out of business.Needless to say I was disappointed. The car looks good from 15-20 feet but has problems close up. 2). The factory radio, which is included, did not work and was removed to be serviced. I never had this done and it does not work. 3). The dashboard has some missing paint areas as shown in the photos. I got another dash to have restored but didn’t get it done. The extra dash is included. 4). The AC does not work, it was never recharged to the current Freon. Other notes: The car has solid floorboards and trunk, they were never replaced. I was told the car was the first one sold; I have no way to verify this and personally find it hard to believe. I got the car from an estate in Southern Colorado. It runs very well, does not smoke at all, and it drives very well. Has a lot of power. Tires are very good. Power steering and brakes are good. This is a good opportunity to get a mostly restored car that needs some work to be completed. I have a clean New Mexico title, located at 87544 in Northern NM. I require a $500 deposit immediately after the sale and the balance by MO or check that must clear before possession is taken.
