Description of 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442 Badging 16k Original Miles |
1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Coupe. This car is an amazing find and truly one of a kind. There is only 16k original miles on the body with the original Nordic Blue factory paint! An original bucket seat / console, factory A/C car w/ power windows, power trunk & power front disc brakes. The Cutlass was purchased new in Pinellas Park, Florida in 1972. Shortly after the original owner brought it home he added an OEM W-25 ram air hood and had it painted to match with the white stripes. He also added the 442 OEM rear bumper w/ exhaust cut-outs. After driving the car for only 15k miles, the car was stored in a warehouse, where it remained for approximately 35 years. When the car was found and purchased from the original owner's estate, the original 350 engine and turbo 350 transmission were gone and the tires were dry rotted off the car. In 2014 I purchased the car and had it transported from Florida to Massachusetts, where I completed the following selective restoration with no expense spared. The Cutlass body is completely 100% original and rust-free. Inside the trunk and the floors both inside and out look like they just came from the factory! The frame had very minor surface rust and I wanted it the same caliber as the rest of the car. I removed the body off the frame and had the frame sandblasted and painted Satin Black. I installed a new fuel tank w/ sending unit, all new fuel and brake lines, replaced the rubber body mount bushings and reinstalled the frame. I replaced the A/C compressor & components w/ all new parts from Classic Auto Air to handle the new high output engine and converted the A/C system from R12 to R134A. I also added a new Be Cool (4) core aluminum radiator w/ thermostatically controlled dual electric fans to cool the new engine. The radiator support also had minor surface rust, so while it was out, I had it blasted and powder coated Satin Black. I added the reproduction 1971 442 front grilles and 1971 NOS taillight lenses. The 442 emblems that replace the cutlass emblems are mounted w/ 3M tape over the existing Cutlass emblem holes, no new holes were drilled. The 442 emblem on the trunk was there when I purchased the car. All the Cutlass factory suspension has been replaced with USA made performance components and include: UMI Performance tubular front upper & lower control arms w/ Delrin & polygraphite bushings, UMI Performance boxed rear lower control arms w/ roto-joints & adjustable upper control arms w/ roto-joints & polygraphite bushings, plus adjustable frame stiffeners. Moog coil springs & Monroe shocks were added all around. Upgraded 1" rear sway bar and 1 1/8" front sway bar. The steering box was replaced with a rebuilt Lares Saginaw 'Z' 12:1 close ratio box. All steering components and linkage were replaced with Moog parts. Due to the low vacuum from the high lift camshaft, the power brake booster was replaced with a new hydro-boost unit that runs off the power steering pump. The engine is a 1970 Olds 455 F1 block bored .030 w/ a balanced rotating assembly, 1968 factory Olds Toronado forged steel crankshaft (extremely rare), main bearing cap girdle & BHJ harmonic balancer, estimated to be rated at over 500HP and includes: Icon forged 10.5:1 compression pistons, Hastings Moly rings, Eagle forged steel H-beam connecting rods, Clevite 77 bearings, Edelbrock RPM aluminum heads, Edelbrock Air Gap RPM aluminum intake manifold, Comp Cams XR290HR high duration hydraulic roller camshaft, Morel hydraulic roller lifters, Smith Brothers pushrods, Rollmaster double roller timing chain, Harland Sharp 1.6:1 roller rocker arms, Melling high volume oil pump, Miloden 7qt. oil pan, Holley 4150 double pumper 800CFM carburetor w/ K&N X-stream air filter, fed by a Mallory electric fuel pump w/ Holley fuel regulator & dual Holley fuel filters. The Ignition consists of an MSD Pro-billet distributor, high vibration MSD Blaster coil & MSD 6AL box. The transmission is a 1969 G.M. Turbo-Hydromatic TH400 3-speed automatic rebuilt to race specifications w/ a Transgo programable shift kit, TCI Street Fighter 3500 RPM high stall torque convertor, deep finned aluminum pan & SFI approved flex plate. The transmission is shifted by a N.O.S. Hurst Dual Gate (His/Hers) Shifter. The starter is a rebuilt G.M. high torque unit and the charging systems has been converted from a using an external regulator to a late model G.M. 105amp one-wire alternator. The rear differential is a rebuilt Olds 'O' 12 bolt from a California car w/ the original brake drums and includes: a new Eaton positraction unit w/ Richmond 3.90 ring & pinion, new bearings & seals, W-27 aluminum cover. The wheel studs have been upgraded from 7/16" to 1/2". The front wheel hubs have also been upgraded to 1/2" wheel studs for added strength. New rear wheel cylinders, brakes shoes & front disc brake pads. The original one-piece driveshaft has new heavy duty Moog U-joints installed. The dual exhaust system includes: Ram Air Restorations reproduction Olds W/Z high performance, high flow cast exhaust manifolds w/ true 2 1/2" collectors, 2 1/2" aluminized pipe w/ equalizer tube, Dynomax Ultraflow turbo mufflers and Pypes 2 1/2" polished stainless steel trumpets. The wheels and tires include: American Racing 200S polished aluminum wheels, 15"x10" rear and 15"x7" front w/ B.F. Goodrich Radial T/A tires, P275/60R15 rear and P225/70R15 front w/ McGard Tough Nuts lifetime lug nuts. The trunk mounted spare is a brand new Cooper P225/70R15 radial tire mounted on a factory Olds SSIII 15"x7" chrome rally wheel w/ a new chrome center cap. The white interior is mostly original, with the exception of the front bucket seats and rear seat being re-upholstered, due to minor heat cracks in the vinyl. The dash, console, door panels, headliner, rear package tray and even the carpet are all original. I added the Hurst Dual Gate shifter, Grant steering wheel, Autometer in-dash tachometer, Autometer electrical gauges and the USA-630 II 300 watt AM/FM in-dash stereo radio w/ iPod & USB auxiliary inputs & Pioneer 6"x9" 3-way speakers. This car is 45 years old and does have some very minor imperfections. There are a a couple very minor nicks / scratches in the paint and some very minor pitting on the original chrome bumpers. With that being said, whoever buys this car will not be disappointed. This car performs, handles and runs awesome, it can be driven anywhere. Most of the original parts that I replaced are available and are included with the purchase of the car. I have the original protect-o-plate, owner's manual, old registrations from the original owner and a copy of the FL title documenting the mileage, as well as a clear MA title. I planned on keeping this car for a very long time, but life brings many unforeseen circumstances and now I find myself selling this beautiful car. Please call me @ 978-360-9898 if you have any questions, would like additional pictures, or would like to schedule an in-person inspection of the car. The car is currently registered and can be test driven. I will assist with transport of the car, but scheduling and payment is the responsibility of the buyer. As for payment of the car, I will only accept a bank wire transfer or cash in person. Thank you for your interest in this unique 1972 Olds Cutlass. |
