Description of 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass

I hate to do it, but I’m selling my beautiful Viking blue, matching numbers,1972 Cutlass Supreme to help our son buy a house.

You will get a lot of looks and a thumbs up whenever you take the car for a drive.

Factory correct 350 cu. In. / 4-barrel “Rocket” engine, Turbo 350 automatic trans, 2.73 rear end.

I purchased the car locally a year ago and have put a LOT of money into it trying to get it back to its former glory. The car is originally from Virginia (1st owner), then to NC (second owner and myself). It was already in great original condition when I bought it, but I wanted it better, so the ground up restoration began.
The car originally CAME with bucket seats and a column shift with single exhaust. I had it changed to an original 72 Cutlass blue floor console (hard to find) with a Hurst Dual-gate shifter, and dual exhaust.

I now have north of $30k into the car with the original purchase price ($8600), body/paint, drivetrain, interior, tires/rims, labor, etc. Below I have listed most of the costlier new items, but there was a lot more that went into the car. I have all the receipts.
The car also comes with: Original owners manual, Protect-o-plate, two build sheets, dealer brochures, etc.

This is a solid rust-free Southern car that still had the original paint on it when I bought it. The mileage shows at 67,765 but that can’t be confirmed. I bought it as actual mileage “exempt”. The only rust the car had was a small 50 cent size area on each lower front fender when the rocker molding trim was removed. Rather than patch them, I had brand new quality fenders put on because I’m very picky. No other rust.

Here’s a list of some of the items that have been done in this last year (less than 100 miles since):

DRIVETRAIN / OTHER-
Engine pulled out and detailed. The original Rochester carb was sent off to be rebuilt. It looks and runs like new. The original starter was also rebuilt.
NEW- seals, gaskets, hoses, belts, fluids, filters, fuel pump, plugs, wires, electronic ignition, fan, etc.
NEW-radiator, battery, blower motor, heater core, shifter cable, gas tank, sending unit, front disc brakes added, Hedman ceramic headers, 2 1/2” stainless exhaust with chrome tips, front & rear shocks, rear coil springs, etc.

TIRES / RIMS
NEW BF Goodrich T/A radials – 235/60/15”
Olds SS1 15”x7” ralley rims with new center caps and chrome lug nuts.

BODY -
NEWpaint in original Viking Blue. Basecoat/clearcoat.
Rechromed original bumpers and bumper guards. Triple chrome w/lifetime warranty. ($1500)
NEW– Front fenders, grill stone shield, windshield, headlight housings, vinyl top, weatherstipping, seals, gaskets, door and trunk locks, door handles, inner fender wells and splash shields, hood insulation, “Cutlass” emblems, trunk paint, trunk mat, spare rim, light sockets, etc.

INTERIOR-
NEWFront seat covers and foam padding, carpet, headliner, rear package tray, door panel carpet, floor mats, sill plates, fan switch, glove box liner, dome light, armrests and chrome backing plates, dash trim, gauges, rearview mirror, etc.
The rest of the interior is original and in excellent condition. No cracks in dash.
I have $1300 alone just in the blue floor console and Hurst dual gate shifter!

This Cutlass looks FANTASTIC!!! It run, drives, and sounds great. The oil pressure is low when sitting still in gear, but it doesn’t affect the idling. May need a new oil pump? I just wanted to mention that so there are no surprises.
The headers and dual exhaust have a nice low rumble to them.

The only issues I know of are:
1) As mentioned, the low oil pressure sitting still in gear.
2 )The original AM radio does not work.
3) The air conditioning is all there and blows, but not cold. Must need Freon?

As with a lot of classic cars that people restore, I have put a lot of money into this beauty and know I will not get it back out.
Unfortunately, I need the money more than a classic car right now.
