Description of 1950 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight |
I am selling this nice 1950 Oldsmobile Futuramic 88 for a friend of mine. He currently has more cars than garage space so would like to find a new owner for this car. It is a solid #3 car, totally drivable and presentable and ready for further restoration or just to drive and have some fun. Back in the day it was considered somewhat of an early "muscle car" with its 303 V8 engine paired with a Rochester Quadra Jet 4 barrel carburetor. It has a 3 speed Hydramatic transmission which gives the car good pickup in the D positionand if the L position is used off the line, it gets 4 speeds and accelerates even faster. With its added dual exhaust system with 2 stainless steel mufflers, it has a nice sound to it when idling and accelerating. Over the 6 years that the current owner has had the car, he has done quite a bit of work on it. The seats, door panels and rear side panels have been recently upholstered and floor carpeting added to replace rubber floor mats. The driver's sidefloor pan and the spare tire well pan were welded in so the total floor is now nice and solid. The front bumper has been rechromed. The grille now has nice components including some NOS, some rechromed and some good original parts. The master cylinder has been rebuilt, the radiator has been recored, the carburetor has been rebuilt and there has been a recent tune up. There are new hoses, a new gas tank and sending unit and some very good used whitewall tires which were recently added. Things that go with the car and may or may not be seen in the pictures are an original AM radio, a clock, a spare tire, a jack, a set of full sized originalhubcaps, a shop manual and a pair of fender skirts. The owner of the car will install the door sill plates, the right side door trim piece, the lens for the right side parking light and the small section of trunk trim if he can find the missing piece. Note that the trunk does not have a cylinder lock, a previous owner replaced it by running a cable to the gas tank door in order to pop the trunk without a key. The clock and the radio may or may not be in working condition. Something is loose in the steering column so that the original horn does not work. The owner has added a 6Vahoogah horn as a fun alternative. Also fun is that the car is a rare "Oldsmobill" rather than a more common "Oldsmobile". Look closely at the front view of the car to see what I am saying. The owner thinks that a previous owner was probably named "Bill" and did this as a joke. But since it was a nice conversation piece, the current owner left it alone even though his name is NOT Bill. The car is located on the northwest side of Chicago in a community called Norwood Park. We would like sell it for the asking price of course, but are glad to entertain offers on this car. If you are anywhere close to our area, we would be glad to show it to you in person. It is, of course, your responsibility to pick up and transport this car if you buy it. Thank you for reading my description and ask me any questions about the condition of this car. If I do not know the answers I will relay said questions to the owner for good answers. |
