Description of 1970 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 |
1970 OLDSMOBILE 442 W-30 THE KING OF THE HILL ORIGINAL/UNRESTORED ALL #'S MATCHING AND ORIGINAL TO THE CAR By 1970, the restriction was lifted by GM and cubic displacement could be as high as you make it. For Oldsmobile, the 455 engine was considered to be the ultimate bad a$$ for its division. The perfect storm happened when Olds dumped that engine into the 442 platform to compete with its rivals such as the Chevy Chevelle, the Buick GS, MOPAR and even the Corvette. There was one more added checkbox on the order form that read "W-30". The 442 W-30 package bought you a fiberglass hood with dual functional air scoops, a low restriction air cleaner, aluminum high flow intake manifold, a hotter performance cam, beefed up cylinder heads(F Heads) along with high spark distributor and larger carburetor. No wonder this Olds was nicknamed the King of the Hill. As time went on these cars and that era became almost obsolete as the American buyer shifted their attention to slow moving luxury liners that simulate living room qualities such as shag carpeting and wood paneling. The fast pace of the muscle car erametamorphosed into ghostly visions of muscle cars up on blocks on the side of a yard with motors blown, rusty Crager mags and the accumulationof years of dirt, dust, pollen and leaves on top of the cars that once were. But very few of us had the foresightto maintain these warhorses, to not beat them to death and preserve them for another date and time. Well as the mid to late 90's rolled around, the muscle car era was reborn, and these cars again were able to see the light and were more valuable than ever. Even though the market has fluctuated over time they continue to prove their worth and that era is stronger than ever. But just like everything we collect, there are always people that like to duplicate, copy and fake something and pass it off as an "authentic" production item. Well, the only thing you can never reproduce is originality. This 1970 Olds 442 W-30 is original and has been well preserved since day one. By reading the description and viewing the pictures there is NO WAY denying that this is one rare car that has maintained its originality. Please read on to learn about this car and let me know of any questions you may have. Vehicle Stampings: VIN# - 344870M372779ENGINE STAMPING - 30M 372779FRONT BLOCK STAMPING - 396021FTRANS TAG - 70-0W-2800TRANS STAMPING - 30M 372779CARBURETOR - 7040258CARBURETOR BASE - 7042305DISTRIBUTOR - 1111979INTAKE MANIFOLD CASTING - 406115INTAKE RAISED LETTER STAMPING - OLDSMOBILE W-455HEADS LEFT AND RIGHT - CASTING "F"FILLER NECK CODE STILL ON ORIGINAL TAG - 0572140 "TT" Other tell tale signs of authenticity are the following: Original Fiberglass hood with metal frame and original metal mesh. Original (never removed from vehicle) are the red fiberglass inner fender wells and fenders. Motor/Trans has never been removed from the vehicle Viewing the pictures you'll see all original parts underneath the car including starter, radiator, fuel pump, hosing, and original leather brackets to dampen vibration on front fenders. Viewing engine bay from top you'll see original flapping around radiator, original W-30 compartment sticker, factory marketings on firewall, trim tag, wire hold downs and all original paint and even original factory stamped exhaust manifolds. Even a good portion of the original exhaust system is still intact and on the car. The Exterior: As you can see from the pictures, the car presents beautiful. About 75% is original and there is evidence of re painting on the right fender, the hood and top of the left fender. It isapparent that the repaint was done in the late 70's or early 80's because it was redone in lacquer and is showing signs of aging. Any maintained paint work was done with parts never being removed. As for the rest of the body that paint is original with some minor touch ups over the body. The car was maintained, the chips were touched up with a brush and the whole car shows as an original lacquerpaint job should from a car this era and age. The body is straight and solid and wears all its original metal. Underneath the car is all original and solid. All the glass is original, date coded and correct. The chrome bumpers are original and are still brilliant in its luster. The brightwork is all intact and in excellent original condition. The wing appears to have been added but the paint shows its age. Its hard for us to tell if it was dealer installed or installed very early in its life. Also, the rear two wheels have been upgraded with a larger size and larger tires, however, the two rear original wheels come with the purchase. The front two wheels are on the car and original. Please view the photos and video and let us know of any questions you may have. The Interior: The interior is all original with the exception of the carpet and the rear speaker tray. The original speaker tray comes with the purchase. Everything else is original right down to the upholstery, headliner, door panels and dash and all are in excellent condition. Everything works inside including the glove box and console lights. It has the original AM radio that still works and all dash lights and signals work perfectly. Please view all the pictures of the interior and let me know of any questions you may have. The Drive Train: The drivetrain is all original and numbers matching. It has been maintained for its 88k miles and has never been rebuilt, redone, restored or out of the car. It runs flawlessly. The transmission is as strong as the day it was new. There is no way to replicate a car and the way that it drives when its original. I was lucky to drive this car and it's literally like going back in time and driving a 5 year old car. There are no rattles, no squeaks, no vibrations.....nothing. And when you step on the gas you'll push this car sideways. If you let it, it'll roast the rear tires right off the car. It's amazing how well this car has been maintained and preserved. You can't replicate originality. When you restore a car you lose the originality and the way the car was intended to drive. This car is roadworthy and I wouldn't hesitate driving this car anywhere. Please listen and view the video, and all the pictures and let me know of any problems you may have. In Summation: A car like this and in its condition is very hard to come by and honestly doesn't come up for sale very often. This is a 3 owner car and the current owner is the third. You'll notice one of the pictures where the car rests. Its in the air, in a climate controlled environment amongstall his buddies from the same era. I will say this so I don't get questions on it. What you see is what you get. The original owner told the second owner that he had a folder of documents which contained the original build sheet which has been misplaced. So I tried to include all the #'s, stampings, and pictures showing that you can not duplicate this cars originality. You can tell the fenders wells have never been off the car. You can tell the car has NEVER been disassembled in any way. You can see it in the photos and feel it when you drive it. Payment: A $1000 non refundable deposit is due immediately after auction end. Balance due in 7 days. No exceptions. Ask all questions and view WHOLE ad before you bid. Vehicle is being sold AS IS and will remain in storage until funds have clear and shipping company that you provide picks it up. Thank you and Good luck.
