Description of 1938 Oldsmobile L38 8 Series |
This is a 5 day auction with a very low Buy it Now price. I'm selling my 1938 Oldsmobile L38 8 Series Touring Sedan Trunk model that has the very desirable straight 8 257 cubicinch(4.2 L) engine and manual transmission (floor shifter).Yes, this is the rare factory 8 cylinder Oldsmobile in original condition. These cars don't come around for sale very often, maybe you'll see the Series 6 model or one updated with a Chevrolet 350. If you love the Art Deco style of the 30's with the big engine, this is it at the most affordable price on the current market. There is a lot of room to make a profit if you want to, but you have to buy it first! This is a factory black car, color code 40 on the cowl tag and tan interior.FrameID number, LL198578, indicates that this Olds was built in New Jersey. I located the car in a makeshift garage inNew York a few months ago, so it had stayed in the tri-state area. I got it home and it was tuned up with all new electrical components, new fluidsanda fresh 12V battery. Yes, it has a 12V battery with leads going to a resistor to protect the 6V instrument panel and accessories. I heard that this was routinely done to get more cranking power during start ups. The motor runs really nice, no vibrations and is surprisingly quieter than I expected from an engine this size. All of the lights work, even has functioning signal lights. Emergency brake works, but the main brakes are soft. All of the glass is intact, I have the glass for the rear driver side vent window along with the interior molding too. Original tan cloth interior with medium brown moldings. The heater is still installedunderneath the dash, not sure if it was a dealer installed accessory. Still has the original16 inchrims with older whitewalls. I have the keys for the car and the lockable gas cap. There is some rust just above the gas tank passenger side area (I have a video of it just ask), everything else is very presentable. The structure of the adjacent frame rails and thesupport structure is completely solid. I only found the rust when I removed the fuel tank. The headliner and the lower door panels are missing, but I do have the interior door/window handles. The driver's side hood opening arm is missing a spring, which prevents it from locking in the upright position. The running boards are lacking the rubber matting material. Missing the wiper assembly too. It is what it is, remember that its 81 years old. The exterior looks very presentable, the chrometrim is all there. I even have a newly chrome plated Series 8 front hood ornament. Comes with an extra front windshield glass panel, dealer distributed 1938 marketing monochromatic photographs and a Series 6 hood ornament (needs plating but anice nostalgic piece of Oldsmobile style). Again, this 38 Olds has a really classy body style with the suicide doors and an 8 cylinder engine that was GM's top of the line ride of that era. A little TLC will get it ready for the Spring cruise nights. Install the fuel tank, check the brakes and detail it to perfection. If I hire someone to finish her obviously I will have to sell it for a lot more money and I don't have the resources and or time at this point. Keep it or sell it for profit, a lot of meat left on the bone according to numerous examples of worse cars of this era selling for about the same or way more money. Selling with a Bill of Sale. If you are seriously interested I can forward you as many pics or videos as you need to see if this classic is for you!Family priorities have changed myplans of freshening her up and holding on to her. Very honest description for this 80 year old classic, if you know these cars you know the value in it! The winning bidder is responsible for shipping, no warranties mentioned and or implied. Basically a private sale! I will make myself available to assist you or the transport company with the pickup. This Olds is currently advertised for sale on social media, so I put a Buy it Now price, which is ridiculously low for a quick sale! Call me at (two 0 3) 5 2 one - 7 8 five eight, if you're seriously interested (just in case I don't check my email). I have the right to delete this auction if and when it sells locally. I just downloaded a video of the engine running, please copy it and paste it on your browser.https://youtu.be/aOGyijtCvx8 |
