Description of 1972 Oldsmobile Other |
This is an actual Festival car with original Indy Speedway festival sticker in the windshield! Only 130 Hurst Olds convertibles were made total. Very well documented car. Has build sheet, purchase order, protect-o-plate, manuals, literature, copy of original title and W-45 on the trim tag. Only 3 owners. It was stored on blocks from 1979 to 1999. We sold the car to the 2nd owner in 1999. He was a collector and parked it next to his Hurst coupe. We sold it to the 3rd owner, another collector in 2017. Only 62,940 miles, very original car. #s match motor, trans and rear. EXTERIOR: Original metal, only 1 repaint. Repainted over 20 years ago in it's original Cameo white. It still shows real well today. The body is real straight and all the panels fit square and flush including the hood. Doors shut like new. There are some bubbles along the drivers door bottom. The ram air hood is excellent, no cracks. All the Hurst Olds decals and emblems were replaced including the gold reflective stripes. The paint is still smooth and glossy. It has rare outside thermometer and sport mirrors. In front the bumper is rechromed, the grills and headlight bezels are in really nice shape. In back the bumper is rechromed, has exhaust cut outs with trumpet tips and blacked out tail light bezels. Super Stock wheels are Hurst gold. White convertible lower top is nice, has glass window. Weatherstrips are good original on the car. The Indy Festival sticker on the windshield is a great piece of history. The windshield is cracked, I would definitely not replace it. INTERIOR: It has an all original interior, nothing's been replaced. The drivers bottom cushion does have some splits, I would have that replaced and you will have a really well preserved original interior. The rest of the upholstery is really nice. In between those bucket seats is the original console with a Hurst dual gate shifter. Down on the floor is the original carpet and the Oldsmobile floor mats. In front of me is a sport wheel, optional clock and optional hood lock. Over all the wood grain, dash pad, vents, visors and mirror are in real nice shape. Inside the ashtray it does have the matching lighter. Has Hurst Indy pace car emblem on the glove box door. Interior lights work. There are two small aftermarket speakers in the kick panels. The door panels are in really nice shape, not warped or beat up. Armrests are good, it does have power windows. ENGINE COMPARTMENT: It does have it's original VIN number matching 455 motor and complete factory ram air system. It also features power steering, power brakes and factory air conditioning. The a/c looks complete but there is no belt on the compressor. Overall the motor compartment is very complete and proper. It has been cleaned and touched up. It does have a reproduction GM hose, GM clamps, the rubber flaps on each side of the radiator. The fan shroud is good, battery is bolted down, washer bottle is hooked up, has the "chicken wire" screen on the bottom of the hood. Original trim tag is on the cowl indicating paint code 11 and the W45 option which is the Hurst package. TRUNK COMPARTMENT: It has the original spatter paint still on the inside of the quarter panels and which tells us it is has the factory quarters. The trunk floor is completely solid original metal and has been resprayed. It has a the rubber mat, original Goodyear Polysteel tire for the spare with the matching Hurst gold wheel. Trunk light works. The weatherstrip is soft, all the wiring looks proper. UNDERSIDE: Original condition, never been spray painted or messed with. All original metal, no patches or repairs. It may appear ugly but it is actually very solid. It has F-41 suspension which includes sway bars and boxed control arms. Has air shocks in back. Looking up at the motor it is clean, the freeze plugs look replaced. The vin # is stamped on the motor that matches the car. The original Turbo 400 was just pulled and resealed at a trans shop. The rear end is original with 3.08 posi gears. It has disc brakes in front, h.d. drums in back. The dual exhaust looks solid, has correct trumpet tips. I have a lot of enthusiasm for this car because of it's history. It has a story to tell from the inception of Hurst Performance deciding to pace the race, to being used at the festival and being so original. Some minor improvements would really bring this car to the next level. Absolutely an investment grade muscle car!
