Description of 1954 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight

1954 Oldsmobile Super 88 Convertible. The factory hot rod at Oldsmobile, known as the 88, was reintroduced in 1954 with an elegant swept design that resonated very well with customers. Lower and wider, the new 88 body lost a little bit in height, but gained in length. Performance and style blended nicely with the 324 CI Rocket V-8 engine providing more than ample power to move the smaller Olds smartly off the line and down the road. The new wraparound windows in both front and rear were also seen on upscale Buick and Cadillac for 1954, with Chevrolet and Pontiac retaining the more antiquated flatter glass design for the time being. The Olds also gained a somewhat European design influence with careful use of chrome, a grille that tapered at the edges into the bumpers and an interior that was bright but simple. The center of the mid-range GM cars was offering customers more upscale thinking and it was a good thingâ€”more often Oldsmobile customers were ordering additional options, especially in the power department. Sometimes, by the time the customer was through checking option boxes, they had a car as well appointed as a mid-level Buick or better.
This 1954 Oldsmobile Super 88 Convertible underwent a cosmetic restoration completed in 2014 by Picture Car Warehouse in Northridge, California after it was purchased from its original owner of almost 50 years. It was always a California car. This Olds features extremely straight body with excellent gaps, show Quality fully sanded and buffed paint in its original color of Glacier Green with matching Leather interior. All exterior chrome trim was refinished. All seals were replaced and the power Top is new with all new rubber seals. This super 88 is equipped with the 324 â€œRocketâ€ V-8 and hydramatic 4 speed automatic transmission. Power steering and power brakes help make it easier to drive.
