Description of 1975 Other Makes Citicar SV-48 |
1975 Sebring Vanguard Citicar all-electric vehicle. The CitiCar was produced between 1974 and 1977 by a U. S. company called Sebring-Vanguard. Inc. . based in Sebring. Florida. The CitiCar and variants were the most produced American electric car until surpassed by the Tesla Roadster in 2011. Sebring-Vanguard was sold to Commuter Vehicles. Inc. . which produced similar vehicles (the Comuta-Car and Comuta-Van) from 1979 to 1982. Its outer design lives on in the Norwegian Kewet. Accounting for all CitiCar variants. a total of 4. 44 units were produced up to 1979. the most since 1945 from a North American manufacturer until surpassed by the Tesla Model S. This Citicar has been garaged its entire life (according to the previous owner) and exhibits none of the rusting that you will see on the steel parts in other similar cars (the frame is aluminum and doesn't rust but there are other parts that do) It was licensed. insured. and fully functional when parked. but will probably need reconditioning now. Most of the brake system was replaced. The original Citicar ran with a series of contactors that make shifting rather jerky. This has been replaced with an Alltrax AXE 4865 motor controller for a smoother ride. The battery pack is marginal. It will move the vehicle. The body panels are plastic and some need replacement. NOS body panels are available through the CCar club. The windshield has been replaced with plexiglass. The interior of the car has some nicer molded seats that I have never seen in any other vehicle. They have "Vanguard" branded on the back. They are unique. The car will need reconditioning and I am selling it as a historic vehicle that sells "as is. where is"I have a title for the vehicle in hand. Unlike many other low-speed vehicles. the Citicar is road legal because it was grandfathered in. The only place where you cannot legally drive it are expressways with minimum speed requirements. I have heard rumors that some golf courses would allow you to drive in right on as if it where a golf cart. Drive it to the golf course. play a round of golf with it. and then drive it home! You can squeeze this vehicle into a standard U-haul trailer or it will even fit in the bed of some larger pickups (if you have a way of getting it up there and back down again). I can guarantee that you will get lots of attention driving this vehicle around! |
