Description of 1962 Other Makes Daimler SP250 |
1962 Daimler SP250, ne-owner for the last 30 years This very nice and authentic 1962 Daimler SP250 has been the property of one owner for the last thirty years. It was reportedly sold new in San Francisco and had been stored in Los Angeles since 1978, hen the current owner discovered it and purchased it in 1985. He restored it over a period of 18 months and completed in 1993. Since then it has been always garaged, nd driven a few thousand miles. The restoration included stripping the body to bare fiberglass and removing the complete interior and drive train. The body was completely stripped and professionally repainted, he 2.5-liter Hemi V8 was rebuilt by Taylor Engine in Whittier, A, he chrome and clear cad plating was redone and the interior and top were redone. The front suspension was rebuilt at that time. The seats, ash and steering wheel are leather, he door panels and rear seat are vinyl. This was not an easy restoration. In those pre-internet days, any letters were written to David Manners and others in the UK and many transatlantic telephone calls were placed, ut the result was an attractive and authentic prize winning restoration. One of 2644 produced between 1959 and 1964 LHD chassis #851 of approximately 1400 produced B-Spec car with C features- originally had a cigar lighter Sold new in 1962, eportedly in San Francisco Correct Square Wiper Motor Correct Lucas Screen Jet Lucas aluminum voltage regulator cover Aluminum generator cover with Daimler logo Correct Tenax top fasteners New replacement windshield and gasket (from France) included Show quality front bumper included- the owner chose not to reinstall if at restoration. Original soft tonneau and boot included Spare parts include new front wheel bearings and brake pads It's hard to believe looking at the car that the restoration was done 20 years ago. It's always been properly stored indoors and kept covered, o sun exposure has been minimal. There is some fine checking evident on the horizontal surfaces- too fine to show in pictures, nd the carpet dye proved a bit unstable and has turned to orange. It originally matched the cherry red paint. The upholstery and top are in fine condition, he brightwork is excellent, nd all in all the restoration looks like it's maybe five years old. Some judicious polishing and it would be ready for the British Car Day of your choice. Or you might just want to drive it. The 140-hp, .5-liter Hemi V8 has lots of power, he engine revs freely and the car is a lot of fun to drive. Even Jay Leno has one- check out his video on Jay Leno's garage.. Of course no car is perfect, et alone a British sports car five decades later, ut we would like to note the following: The troublesome rear axle has been replaced with aftermarket unit The parking brake is not connected- needs cable replaced Horn and turn signals work, ut not connected. Wiring harness complete and intact Left upper control arm bushing needs replacement. There's a crack in the windshield but a replacement windshield and gasket are included. There's a scrape on rear edge of passenger door from a low curb, mall hole in inner fender of engine bay. Both are shown in pictures. But aside from that, t's a rare, ast, nd extremely nice little Daimler with a totally rust-free undercarriage. We've placed a very reasonable reserve on the car which roughly represents the cost of the cosmetics. It's an excellent value indeed. If you've been thinking about an SP250, ou would do yourself well to consider this one. The car is located in dry and sunny Pomona, alifornia and may be viewed on appointment before auctions end. Please peruse the many pictures. My name is Jeff and I am listing the vehicle for the longtime owner. He is a busy fellow but could generally be available to show the car with a day's notice. Port delivery for a European Buyer will run approximately $300. Please feel free to ask any questions prior to bidding. I am happy to answer any questions you may have. Remember that your bid is a commitment to purchase. Thanks for looking and happy bidding! |
