1981 Berlina Coupe by Phillips is a replica of a 1936 Mercedes 540K. This car was built on a New 1981 Corvette T-Top by the Phillips Motorcar Co. on Powerline Rd. in Pompano Beach Florida. They were built in the years of 1980, 981, nd 1982, nd used those year model Corvettes for the basis of producing the Berlina Coupe. I was a Dealer / distributor for the Berlina Coupe in those years and sold more than any other dealer when these cars were new. The name of my Company was Berlina Motorcar Sales in Knoxville, ennessee. My parent Company is Cooper's Inc. dba Coopers Corvette Center. I am still in business at the same location today. Now about this Berlina: I sold it new in 1981 to a Gentleman in Connecticut. My father, avid "Big Dave" Cooper made the sale. As years went by the Berlina production was ceased, ue to low sales, inancial issues, nd the changing of the Corvette to the C4 body style. Mr. Phillips didn't want to continue production on "used" Corvettes and after the new 1982's were depleted, he Phillips Motorcar Co went into receivership sometime in 1983. Original plans were to produce 500 cars, ut the total production ended at less than 100 units, sold 25 of them. Now in 2001 my Father kept thinking about this car, t was his favorite being white with Red Leather interior. He made the call to Connecticut to find that the owner had passed away and a deal was cut with his widow to purchase the car. I traveled to Connecticut in October of 2001 and drove the car back to Knoxville for my Father to drive. My Father passed in 2011 at age 99 and the ownership of the car went full circle back to me and my brother. We have kept the car on our showroom since then and have now decided to move on and let someone else enjoy this totally unique Automobile. You can Google "Berlina Coupe" for more information about one mans passion, alter W Philliptoproduce this car. For additional information on this car call Byron R Cooper at 865.687.8303. I have set the reserve below any advertised price for a Berlina that I have seen, s its time for her to go.
