Description of 1967 Chevrolet Corvette L71

1967 Marlboro Maroon L71 Corvette Convertible w/Black interior, L71 427/435hp, 4-speed manual transmission. If you were able to buy a new 1967 Corvette back in the day, few if any buyers truly knew of the significance of their purchase. This was to be the last year of the second generation or mid-years as the '63-'67 models were known. And as was the case in '67 Corvette, the last of the line turned out to be the best. But truth be told,... the '67 Corvette as we know it, wasn't supposed to exist in the first place! Anticipation was high for the arrival of the new third-generation Corvette Stingray aka the "Shark”. The car was due to be released as a 1967 model, but it wasn't quite ready. So, it was decided that the mid-year bodied Corvette would continue for one more year. Because of this, many '67's languished in Chevrolet showrooms throughout the Country as many were waiting to buy the new C3 instead! Who'd have thought! That extra year of production enabled the boys at GM time to refine the C2 just enough to make what is considered the best mid-year, if not the best of the first three generation Corvettes ever built! Many, if not all, buyers who checked RPO L71 back then were looking to do one thing . . . GO FAST!! With the exception of the L88 (which was really a racing-only application), the L71 was the top dog in 1967. This was a solid lifter, tri-carb torque monster that was built for speed! And if you wanted to save a little weight with your horsepower, you could opt for the rarest engine option offered that year . . . the aluminum headed L89! But, there were only 16 of those built in 1967.Originally sold new out of Ron Tonkin Chevrolet in Portland, OR, the 1967 L71 Corvette presented here is very special and rare for a number of reasons. Fifteen, to be exact. Because that's how many options this beast has! It's extremely uncommon that a buyer of a brand new 435hp big block would check almost every box on the options list, but the original owner of this one did just that! Options include:L71 427/435hp EngineClose Ratio 4-spd. Manual Transmission3.70 Posi Rear AxleTransistorized IgnitionPower BrakesPower SteeringPower WindowsLeather SeatsSpeed Warning IndicatorTelescoping Steering ColumnBolt-On WheelsRed Line TiresAM/FM RadioDual Side Mounted ExhaustTinted GlassThese options are all documented on an almost perfect tank sticker! The car was beautifully frame-on restored within the last few years and features a numbers matching engine. It's a fantastic driver that starts up instantly with the growl that only a solid lifter big block with side exhaust can produce! The color combination is pure class, set off by the one year only bolt-on wheels with Redline tires. This is a 1967 L71 Corvette Convertible that beckons you to sit behind the wheel, adjust the leather seat and take her for a cruise!
