Description of 1971 Jensen Interceptor

1971 Jensen Interceptor Mk2.
The good: Lots of money spent bringing Stella back. $27,000 on mechanicals and original parts. Newly rebuilt 383 at Orange Engine Rebuilders, with new camshaft and aluminum intake manifold. Rebuild 727 Torqflite transmission. Rebuilt Carter four barrel carburetor. Re-cored radiator with custom aluminum radiator shroud by Mattsen's Radiators with new fans. No overheating issues in any conditions. Rebuilt steering rack by K&D Enterprises. New brake booster and master cylinder. Rebuilt front brake calipers, new tie rod ends, front shocks, wheel bearings, steering shaft coupling, electronic ignition, plug wires, distributor, water pump, and more. New wheel emblems. Brand new Michelin radials. Re-chromed bumpers. Replacement hood with new Hardura insulation. New MK2 rocker switches. New power ariel. Refurbished period Becker Europa fm radio with new J&L amp and speakers. The car starts and runs reliably and drives down the freeway in style as it did in 1971. It was celebrity owned, and has spent most of its life in California. Some original parts scoured from eBay include a good condition parcel shelf, AC controls, MK2 console, horn button, etc. Lights, turn signals, power ariel, electric fuel door all work, along with the original Maserati air horn that will wake the dead. The boot has been retrimmed and carpeted, original trim pieces all in excellent shape. New Jensen firewall insulation installed when engine was rebuilt.
What it needs:
Needs paint and some minor body work. Original color was metallic fawn. Previous owner painted it Viper Red. It has some minor bubbles in the paint behind the driver side rear wheel, a small ding above the front lights driver side, some very minor surface rust on the rear hatch and door sill - very minor, also a few shallow spots where some surface rust had been sanded before prior repaint. I tried to show everything in the pictures. It also has a small section of sheet metal surrounding the parcel shelf replaced, but the repairs were not well done. It was hidden by upholstery, exposed when stripped for refinishing - shown in pics. The original hood was replaced with a perfect rust-free hood, with new Hardura insulation, but the color doesn't match. The underside is solid with the exception of a small pinhole in the passenger side floor well.
Interior looks good from outside, but is needs carpets, the front seats could use new padding and upholstery, and the dash has a crack in it and a repair where the light switch resides in place of an original warning light. The tachometer works sometimes and the speedometer doesn't work, but a replacement dash is included, along with a new old stock speedometer and tachometer, and the missing warning light. Headliner, visors, rear seats, and upholstery all in good shape. Some of the weather-stripping around the windows is in poor condition, but new Jensen weather-stripping is included for installation at time of repaint.
Great car. Always gets thumbs up and interest wherever it goes. Park next to a Ferrari and people will walk over to look at your Jensen. Give it a lick of paint and a little refresh on the interior and she will be a show stopper. Or drive it and enjoy it as is.
