Description of 1957 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series 220S |
I bought this old timer thirty years ago from a fellow that inherited the car from his grandma. He told me that his grandmother was the original owner. This car is a rare model with a front bench seat and odometer and speedometer is in miles. It was built originally for American market. Over the years have done lots of work on it. I no longer have the time and space for this car so I decided to part with it. The car is mechanically sound and I drive it every now and then. The engine was professionally rebuilt early on and since has only about 4000 miles. It starts with no problems and runs smooth. The transmission was rebuilt around five years ago and new clutch installed. Breaks are redone and in perfect working condition including the booster. Transmission shifts smoothly through all gears including reverse. As far as engine goes, I have done the following modifications that are very common on these cars and they are all bolt on and can be reversed simply by putting the replaced parts ( Included in sales ) back in around 2 hours. Below is the list:
1- Installed electronic Ignition ( Improved engine performance substantially ) 2-Replace the dual carburetors and intake manifold with Weber carburetors and late model manifold ( the original carburetors and manifold in excellent condition are included ) 3-Wheels are 14 inch wheel from later models ( The original 13 inch wheels are included )
The car does not need anything mechanically, but could use a paint. It looks shiny but, there are cracks in paint and body work. Interior is nice and clean. Seats were redone a while ago, but since the car i garaged all the time they are in very good condition. Carpet is all there and in good condition. The wood is in good condition as well. The bumper are not re-chromed, I painted them to preserve from rust. The rest of the chrome is in fair to good condition. Please ask questions before bidding and I will be happy to answer and also provide picture. The car has no rust. It is a solid car. Inspections are welcome BEFORE bidding or buying. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. Contact your shipper for quote and let them know this is a running care. I will help and cooperate with shipping after it is paid. Clear California title in hand. This car has spent all his life in California. The care would need the following attention: Heater boxes and controls need to be installed ( I have all parts plus extras ) Windshield wiper motor need to be installed ( All parts included ) There is a lot of extra part such as a complete engine and transmission and trim parts This car is not show car and has light body damaged from sitting in garage and also small dings and dents but nothing major. I would rate it a 7 or 8 for a daily driver, it needs minimal TLC to be a perfect car. |
