This 1954 Kaiser custom Special 2 door sedan is said to be one of only 500 such early 2 doors built in 1954. According to the Kaiser-Frazer Club, this is one of only 10 known examples today. It has a Manhattan chassis, body and interior combined with '54 grille and taillights. Later 1954 Specials featured a three-piece rear window and less special interior but this particular Kaiser is a early version with the famous "bambu" vinyl interior! Made in Kaiser’s Toledo, Ohio factory, this car left the line with the following equipment: oil-bath air cleaner, directional signals, bumper bridge end caps, four stainless steel wheel discs, electric clock, rear seat cigarette lighter, deluxe Tenite plastic steering wheel, exhaust deflector and tilt-type rearview mirror. The correct two-tone Jade Green Metallic over Stardust Ivory paint and trim are in overall excellent order, as are the glass panels and lights, including the amber fog lights over the front bumper. The bodywork is straight and solid and the undercarriage looks extremely tidy. The Kaiser’s engine bay is extremely tidy, the chrome bumpers are beautiful, the battery appears new, the cargo area is in very good order with its green carpeting and full size matching wire wheel, whitewall tire. This Kaiser Special rolls on newer Firestone Deluxe Champion wide whitewall tires, size 7.10-15 at every corner. Each tire is mounted to a new Kelsey Hayes style full chrome spoke wheels with a full matching spare.Under the hood is Kaiser’s 226 CID straight six-cylinder engine, mated to a three-speed manual transmission. This car has a rebuilt suspension and drum brakes plus a new exhaust system. The interiors on these cars were also rather ahead of their time. Although Kaiser automobiles would not see the Sixties, at least in the United States, they had some very advanced features for their time, including a padded instrument panel with all major gauges clustered in the driver’s line of sightInside, this example retains its all-original bleached “bambu†upholstery with green inserts. The bench seats are in great shape, while the corresponding green carpeting is in excellent condition, doing its best golf course impersonation. The matching headliner is also in nearly flawless original order. The factory two-spoke steering wheel is present and looks great while the green and tan dash and inner door liners reflect the rest of the interior’s condition. The console-mounted shift lever is in good, original shape and a factory AM radio with one speaker round out the interior. Widely rumored to have its stylistic roots in the Buick XP-300 show car, the Kaiser Special’s styling elements include large oval headlamp surrounds, its “jet airscoop†grille, matching “air intake†chrome vent on the hood and at the rear, “Safety-Glo†taillights, which could be seen from the sides and behind the car. The car’s “widow’s peak†windshield and lack of a wraparound rear window marks it as an early-series 1954 model.Competition to this Kaiser in 1954 included Buick’s Series 40 Special Riviera Coupe; Chrysler’s Windsor Deluxe Newport two-door hardtop; DeSoto’s Powermaster Six Club Coupe; Dodge’s Coronet Six Club Coupe; Oldsmobile’s 88 Holiday Coupe; Packard’s Clipper Super Panama; and Pontiac’s Chieftain Six De Luxe Catalina.VIN: K545012312 If you’re looking for some 1950s automotive style that is unique, you found it in this 1954 Frazier Special.
